Y/n's pov:
The whole day went by. Me and Jace kept on ignoring each other during all the classes we had together. Now that I got home, I threw my bag on the couch and looked around, not finding my mom. I frowned and let it slide. Getting to the kitchen with heavy steps I grabbed a water bottle and chugged it all in at once.
I heard the main door open and close. My eyes landed on Jace who went straight to his room like always. I sighed. When will he change...? Thinking for a while, I heard him coming downstairs. I grabbed a pan and started making pancakes since I couldn't find anything in the fridge.
Jace came him the kitchen and looked in the fridge to find something to eat. I heard him sight and shut the door. "Hey... I'm making pancakes. You want some?" Keeping my eyes on the pan I asked. "No." His blunt answer made me sigh. "I don't know where mom went so let's eat this for now." Waiting for him to reply back with a yes. I got a sigh in return.
"I'll make it myself." I nodded and kept on making myself pancakes. He sat down on the chair and kept on using his phone.
Jace's pov:
Y/n asked me if I wanted pancakes. I was actually starving but my ego would hurt if I agreed. So I rejected her offer. She didn't give up and asked me again in a different way. I sighed. "I'll make it myself." I took a seat and started using my phone. My eyes kept on landing on y/n who was humming a random song while making her pancakes. Her body kept on swinging.
Our eyes met as turned to place her plate down. I quickly looked away, a weird feeling took over my stomach as she passed a soft smile. She sat down in front of me and started eating. I got up and looked for the ingredients that I wanted for my pancakes.
I saw y/n who was using her phone while munching on her pancakes. My eyes looked away from her as I heard the doorbell ring. Before I could go and check I saw y/n get up to check instead.
"Oh hey! Come in." I heard her faded voice from not afar. "Thanks." A familiar male voice made my muscles tense. It was Mark. They made their way to the kitchen. "Hey. Isn't that the new guy in our college?" He looked at me and grabbed a seat. "Yup." Y/n smiled. Our relationship was not announced to the college. So no one knew we were step siblings.
"I didn't know you two were friends." Mark looked at me and then at y/n with a suspicious look. "He is my stepbrother." Her cheerful voice came out as a disappointed one. Making me feel down. Was she ashamed of calling me her stepbrother...? Wait what am I thinking? I don't care.
"Let's start?" Y/n spoke as she placed her plate down in the sink. Mark nodded and they both went to the living room.
Y/n's pov:
"So... where do we start?" I looked at Mark who just shrugged his shoulders. "Let's start with our first lesson that we did in our first dance class." He nodded. I hummed and played a song. "Okay so start with your right foot...then bring your hands in and then out..." I was explaining. Mark did the same.
As we both were dancing, I heard a loud scream. I quickly ran to the kitchen and found Jace, hissing while holding his hand. The pancakes were burning on the stove while Jace closed his eyes. My eyes landed on his hand which was covered with blood.
I quickly ran to him and turned the stove off, then grabbed his hand. He hissed again because of the pain. "How did this happen?" He didn't say anything. "I'm asking you!" My voice slightly raised. "I was thinking about something and I didn't realize that I cut myself..." First time hearing him speak with a shaky voice.
"Come with me." As I held his hand, I pulled him with me. Mark stood there looking at what just happened. "I'll be back. You can practice till then if you want to." He nodded and I left with Jace.
I took him to the bathroom. "You should have been careful..." I started cleaning his wound. Feeling his strong eyes glued to me. "It's not that big." His cold yet painful voice came out. "Are you kidding me? Do you see how big this cut is?!" I saw him biting his lip as I slightly yelled at him.
"If it was a small cut then why was your hand covered in blood?" He stayed silent. I applied the bandage on it. "You didn't eat anything did you?" I saw him roll his eyes. "I want an answer not an attitude!" Yelling at him again. I don't know I was so pissed. Seeing him in pain made me feel like I was in pain.
"N-no..." He stuttered with his head hanging low. "Come." Hold his other hand I pulled him out of the bathroom. "Why are you-" I knew he was going to say something. "No talking only eating. I know you haven't eaten anything since morning." I was definitely not thinking straight.
Jace's pov:
She was being too dominating. I somehow felt intimidated by this side of hers. She was usually soft but today was different, especially after what happened just now. Her eyes showed anger yet worry. "Sit here." She gently pushed me on a chair and started making something.
Mark came in the kitchen. "You okay now dude?" I nodded as my eyes turned to him from y/n. "Mark is it okay if we do extra hour tomorrow?" I was taken aback. She is really going to leave her work because is me? "Yeah sure no problem." He passed a quickly smile at her. "Take care dude." I hummed and he left.
My eyes were on y/n. She was cooking something big. She kept on mumbling. After a while she was done. She placed the plate in front of me. My jaw slightly opened as I saw the food. It was cheese pasta. It smelled so good. While I was staring at the plate I heard y/n get a call.
"Hey mom. Where are you?" I tried to pick up the spoon but failed. She saw it and came to me. "Yeah okay. See you then." She ended the call and grabbed the spoon. Pulling out the seat from in front of me, she sat down. "I can eat it myself." She rolled her eyes. "I know but right now you can't hold anything. So open your mouth." I hesitantly opened my mouth and she started feeding me.
I felt embarrassed. But her face was straight. "Mom said she will be home till evening." She broke the awkward silence. I hummed and kept on munching while she kept on feeding me, one bite after another.
I was done eating and got up. "Jace listen to me carefully. I won't force you to except us as your family. I know it is hard and it is for me as well. I can't replace my father with yours and you can't replace your mom with mine. So let's try to be friends if we can't be step siblings...?" I stopped on my track.
"I know you think I easily excepted you and your dad but that's not true. I am only trying to be happy for my mom..." I could sense her voice slightly shaking. "Why would you be friends with me?" My cold voice came out. "Why not? You are not a bad person..." I felt her standing behind me.
"But it's okay if you don't want too..." I saw her going to her room but she stopped on the stairs. "And if you need anything let me know." She passed a weak smile and went upstairs, leaving me dumbfounded. What is she doing to me...?
