prologue

𝙏𝙃𝙄𝙍𝘿 𝙋𝙀𝙍𝙎𝙊𝙉.

brinley and corbyn were the best of friends and had been for as long as they could remember. every since corbyn stuck up for brinley against a boy who ruined her barbie in kindergarten, they've been attached by the hip. constantly hanging, never really going more than a day without seeing each other. they were often mistaken as a couple by teachers, friends and even random people they met.

their families were close as well, like one big happy family. the families spent every holiday, big event/achievement, went on vacations together and even have a big game/movie night every saturday.

their parents and even their siblings, not so subtly, wanted them to be together and get married, expressing this every chance they could. the pair was heavily annoyed by the idea constantly being mentioned to both of them, well at least one of them didn't feel that way towards the other.

corbyn was in a happy committed relationship for two years until he realized his feelings for his other half. he ended it with his ex who he is still very close friends with about five months ago, which was a month after he realized he was in love with brinley. he thought that it wasn't fair to his girlfriend at the time, so he ended it which she took very well and was very understanding.

brinley on the other hand was not in a happy relationship, at least in the eyes of others it wasn't a happy or healthy one. her and her boyfriend, tyler have been dating for a year and half but have been on and off for almost a year. tyler was constantly hurting and breaking brinley's trust, toying with her feelings. even through all the arguments, controlling, manipulation and even cheating, brinley ran back to him because in her eyes she loves him too much to lose him, that she needs him and he has convinced her that all the problems in their relationship were her fault.

corbyn and brinley were there for each other through their best and worst and thick and thin. they made a promise to one another that they would always be there for the other no matter what, no exceptions. so through the multiple heartbreaks and breakups, corbyn has always been there for brinley to pick up the pieces and put her back together again but all she does is run back to tyler starting the cycle all over and over again.

even thought he loves brinley, just wants what's best for her and for her to be happy, corbyn has been slowly pulling away from her and their friendship because it's ruining him. his heart breaks every time she knocks on his door, makeup smudged and tears running down her face that were caused by her boyfriend. he's losing himself in the process and just can't deal with it anymore.

brinley has barely noticed that corbyn was doing this and that they were barely hanging out and hardly even friends anymore because she's been too caught up in her own life and problems to notice corbyn's pain. corbyn felt neglected by his own best friend, the fact that she didn't even notice or seem to care that he was in pain and pulling away. this only made him distance himself more.

luckily for him, corbyn has a great relationship with his family. his younger brother jordan, always being there to cheer him up and his younger sister ashley was always a shoulder to cry on and great at giving him advice. and his mom and dad were both extremely supportive and proud of literally everything he did in life.

brinley wasn't as fortunate. her parents may still be together but they are constantly fighting and barely there for their kids, not setting a great example to their daughters on what a healthy relationship is. brinley had a younger sister, melody as well but she was only ten years old and was full of sunshine, puppies and rainbows, not understanding a lot about the world yet. brinley loves her sister so so much but she often envies her optimism, innocence and happiness. corbyn's family was always there for her too but tyler has caused so many problems and rift between them.

brinley used to be super happy and full of life, outgoing and had lots of friends but tyler has taken and manipulated so many things from her that the only real friend she had left was corbyn and he was one of her only ounces of happiness left.

no one and no relationship had been the same since tyler and it may all be too far damaged and beyond repairing. but corbyn had hope, he has hope that one day brinley will come to her senses, realize her worth and that corbyn is the one who she truly belongs with.
