"Y.. You're WHAT!?" Gwen stammered.
The Internship group stood, staring at Captain Nemesis as he sat at his desk in the main office of the Nemesis Agency.
"You heard me." said Nemesis. "I'm including the interns in the investigation of Overlord."
"S-sir, I have to express agreement with Tennyson's shock." said Tenya. "We're mere students, and furthermore, students who don't yet have our own provisional licenses to allow us work as sidekicks."
"Yeah, we couldn't even stand much of a chance against one of the villains from Overlord's group." said Ben. "It took all we had just to survive Sublimino."
"I understand." said Nemesis. "And I know why this feels like a controversial move. Especially since most of my Pro Hero friends believe the safer measure is to confine Ben to a safe house until the investigation ends. However, you've all proven yourselves in some way to be experienced beyond your years. Sitting on the sidelines will not benefit your learning. Ben already proved he has the mettle to take down a massively powerful villain. And Iida, Midoriya, I happen to know about the little 'incident' that took place during your first internship."
"Incident?" muttered Denki.
"First I'm hearing of it." Kevin muttered.
"In any case, I've discussed it with Aizawa, and we are legally allowed to grant emergency Provisional License status to you kids until the advent of the investigation ends." said Captain Nemesis. "Provided we take a few precautions. This is after all, a HIGHLY dangerous investigation."
Kyoka looked quickly at Izuku and the two of them nodded at each other.
The day before, Aizawa had taken them aside.
"Gwen isn't aware yet, you two will need to inform the others as the plan unfolds, since this was made in a hurry and on the fly with no time to debrief all involved." said Aizawa. "But in order to buy enough time to keep Ben's fake parents and the mob from taking him back to America, we are going to give temporary Emergency Provisional Hero licenses to you interns. Law states that if a hero, or Provisional Hero, is taking part of a serious investigation regarding high level criminals, that trumps a parents's authority to pull the hero out of the investigation, as licenses grant the user official authority to do hero activity at their own whim with their hero agency's permission."
It had been a hurried plan, but the real intent was to put Ben onto fake leads for Overlord to prolong the investigation while the Nemesis agency kept an eye on him, giving Principle Nezu the necessary time to dig up evidence of Ben's real parentage at least lay a mass arrest on key components of the Forever Knight mob. However, as the plan had been contrived on the fly due to the haste of action, Izuku and Kyoka, along with Aizawa, were responsible for informing the others as the investigation panned out, without alerting Ben.
The parents of the other interns had already been informed and agreed to cooperate, especially since it was learned that they would be going anywhere BUT the real leads of the dangerous investigation.
Back in the present, Aizawa walked up to stand next to Nemesis's desk. "I agreed to join in on the investigation to keep an eye on all of you while you work, and provide assistance." said Aizawa. "The details of your assignment are simple. People in Tuxedos and bowler hats have been sighted in Kyoto, the MO of the Fated Five, the elite honor guard of Overlord himself."
"Fated Five." Ben murmured as he remembered Sublimino. "Now that you mention it. The hypnotist guy mentioned something about that. He had a huge number five on his tux."
