Harus surprise

Daisuke POV
I was sitting on the sofa away from my other coworkers I didn't really pay attention to what they were saying.
"Hey Kato isn't tomorrow your birthday?" Kamei questioned.
"Yeah and lets not talk about it." Kato sighed.
"Ohh I see aren't you turn-
"SHUT UP!" Kato interrupted.
Hmm so its Kato's birthday tomorrow. Maybe I should do something but what. Are relationship isn't the best maybe this can make it up if I maybe give him a present? I was deep in thought until I was interrupted.
"Oi Kambe." Kato blurted.
"Oh what is it?" I questioned.
"Do you want to help me out with this case?" Kato offered.
"Sure but what is the case?" I asked.
"It's a little girl who got lost." Kato explained.
I got up from the sofa and followed Kato.

In Daisuke car.

Awkward silence was present. Kato was looking out the window with a upset expression. I really not good with helping people with their emotions but seeing Kato like this is kinda upsetting.
"Kato were is the location of the girl." I asked.
"Kato?"
I glanced at Kato to see why he wasn't responding. He was peacefully sleeping his head on the window. How the hell is sleeping, is he not been getting enough sleep? I pulled over to the side of the road to see if Kato was alright. I wasn't sure what to do.
"Uhh Kato." I started poking him on his arm. Is he a heavy sleeper? I grabbed on to his arm and started gently shaking him.
"Kato wake up."
"Huh?" Kato looked dazed.
"Why are you sleeping?" I questioned
"Oh sorry I really haven't had good sleep in a while." Kato sighed.
"But don't worry about me." Kato smiled.
It was quite obvious there was something wrong with him. Kato looked like how he usually is confident, carefree, and strong but there was just something that seemed wrong.

Me and Kato we're done with our task for today. I was driving Kato back home
"That was a tough one." Kato sighed.
"At least we found the little girl mother." Kato ranted.
"Hey kato?"
"Hm?"
"Has something been bothering you lately? I asked. Kato's expression changed a bit.
"No, why do you ask?"
"Are you sure because Kato I know you are just my partner but I do care for you." I confessed.
Kato's eyes looked like they were twinkling.
"Haha Kambe you are something." Kato laughed.
"But I'm being serious." I insisted.
"Oi Kambe do I have to tell you again don't worry about me."
Kato was making a bright smile but is he really okay.

Daisuke mansion evening
I drived Kato home and now I'm starting to worry about him.
"Mr. Daisuke are you alright?" Suzue questioned.
"Yes I'm fine." I lied
"Hmm did something happen today." Suzue asked.
"Well Kato seems not himself."
"How so?"
"Earlier he was sleeping in the car."
"That doesn't sound like him." Suzue acknowledged.
"Apparently its his birthday tomorrow." I remembered.
"You should give him a gift that could cheer him up." Suzue suggested.
"But what could I give him?"
"I'm not sure but make it something special to show you care for him. Suzue ordered.
"Hm?"
I went to my bedroom to go to bed but I was to deep in thought about Kato. He's been on my mind a lot recently especially right now. Why do I care for him so much. And what should I even gift him.

Next day
I decided to take a day off of work and find something special for Kato's birthday before its to late. Well I wonder if he got a new watch his last one broke because of me... Yeah that's it I'm going to buy him a new watch. I got into my car went to the nearest jewelry shop.
I got to the jewelry shop and looked around to find something that would be perfect for him.
"Hey isn't that the same watch I have?"
I went to closer to the display to see a watch awfully similar to mine. What if we matched for how cringy that sounds I think it's a perfect gift.
"Excuse me may I have that one please?" I asked
"Of course sir." The lady cheerfully smiled.

After that experience I went back home to think of other ways to show I care for Kato. Wait I have the best idea.
I started to drive to Kato's apartment. I remember were he lives from when I stayed over that one time.
I was in front of his door and knocked.
"Coming!" Kato yelled.
Kato opened the door and he looked sleepy his hair was all messed up and everything.
"Kambe?"
"Why weren't you at work today!?" Kato pointed his finger at me.
"Can I come in?" I calmly asked.
"Huh well sure I guess." Kato scratch his head.
I walked inside Kato apartment. Everything looks the same since last time I was here.
"So Kambe why are you here?"
Kato looked so sleepy I hope I didn't wake him up.
"And what are you holding?"
"Here." I awkwardly gave Kato the small box that had his gift inside.
Kato grabbed the present out form my hand.
"Before you open it I have something to say." I blurted.
"Yeah what is it?
"Kato you are such a great person that I couldn't just not give you anything for your birthday."
"I really care for you." I admitted.
I saw a light blush appear from Kato's face.
"Oi don't say stuff that." Kato tried to avoid eye contact.
Kato looked at the gift I gave him. He slowly opened the gift to see the same watch I have.
Kato face lightened up.
"Do you uh like it?"
Kato gently took the watch out of the box. I saw a tear run down his face.
"Kato are you alright?" I panicked.
"Thank you Kambe." A bright smile appeared on Kato's face.
Seeing Kato smile like that makes me happy especially if I was the reason.
"But why did you get me the same one you have?"
"That leads on to my second gift." I smirked
"Huh?"
I got closer to the confused man. I put my lips on to Kato's. I gently let go of his lips to see Kato bright red and in shock.
"Happy birthday Kato." I smiled.
