I'm sorry, I just have to add this as the first myth. Ha.
The first thing people freak out about when I say I'm British, is "OMG YOU HAVE A BRITISH ACCENT."
Oh please. I don't have a "British accent."
Let me clear the confusion up. Britain itself is made up of different countries : England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. Each of these regions has their own way of speaking. And in London where I live, there're even different accents. I don't think I sound particularly like the people from South London.
So, just like in America, we have different accents. So many accents we can't even count.
There's no definite "British accent", and that means no "British accents". Got it? Okay, let's move on to the next point.
There's just something I don't get. Why do people not in Britain want to (get this) imitate our accents? Come on, I'll give you a trade, I don't want to be speaking this way.
Some people imitate British people and they do it quite convincingly, except when it goes all high and squeaky. Okay that's just me being weird.
There was this day, when me and my chums (see, I like to use that word, doesn't it sound all very British? It doesn't? Oh well.) went out to the cinema and watched a movie. But it ended up with me trying to speak like the American actors.
I failed.
But that's not the point.
The point is, I want to have an American accent! Or better yet, one from Texas.
"Har, mar name's Marcus, and I'm from Texas. Mississippi!"
Forgive me, I digress. But I like Marcus Butler. He's funny. Jack and Finn Harries too. Speaking of them, do you notice how the comments are always filled with "I could listen to that accent all day" and "I love your accent" and "you're hot!"? (Another sign that I watch way too many YouTube videos)
Don't get me wrong, I love my "British accent", especially when I get compliments (nasty, am I?), but the gist of this is:
We don't speak funny, the rest of the world does.
{Tell me about whether you've ever imitated anyone's accent before and all your funny stories. I'd love to hear them.}
