It was around sunrise when I heard 3 sharp knocks on my door. I hadn't exactly fallen asleep after arriving back to my dorm, and I certainly hadn't been doing anything else besides staring up at the ceiling and replaying the moments from last night in my mind. I really did not want to answer that bloody door.
3 sharp knocks again, but this time even louder.
I groaned and rolled out of my bed, slipping on my shoes and throwing on my robes in a hurry. As I open the door, I'm surprised to see Professor McGonagall standing in front of me. Her stern look tells me she's here to reprimand me for my "actions" last night at the ball. This wouldn't be the first time however.
"Good morning, Miss Anders. Nice to see you've sobered up."
I gave her a faint look of embarrassment and tried to think of something to say that wouldn't dock hufflepuff a few points. "I'm not particular in getting anyone in trouble, but Seamus Finnigan-"
"That's not why I'm here, Miss Anders. Your fellow classmate, Susan Bones, is on leave for the rest of the semester. Professor Snape's morning potions class now has a vacant seat, and seeing as you currently have no morning classes, you will be switched into this one. You have your book already, I presume. Class starts in an hour... better tidy up." McGonogall adjusts my robe as I notice I've put in on inside-out, and then leaves in a hurry.
I am truly not a morning person, so this was not the greatest of news. However, I knew Harry and Ron took Snape's potions class at this time, so I took comfort in knowing I wouldn't be alone.
I head to class 15 minutes before start, hoping the moving staircase stays put. I've been late to class countless times due to those bloody stairs, and now was certainly not the time for another tardy. Luckily, they're quite stagnant in the early mornings due to the lack of commotion.
As I walk down the corridors briskly, I wave to a couple of familiar faces- Luna Lovegood, Ginny Weasely, and a tired, clearly half-awake Neville Longbottom. It's nice being able to spot people I know in the corridors, instead of pushing my way through a busy afternoon crowd of students. Perhaps I could get used to this.
I only have a minute to spare as I stumble into Snape's classroom. I had forgotten how long the walk from the hufflepuff dorms were and ended up running as soon as I saw the class door. I quickly realize the class is staring at me, and straighten up as Snape announces my presence. Harry and Ron give me a quick wave and I reciprocate. I certainly hope seating isn't assigned, that way I can sit next to-
"Anything to add, Ms. Anders?" Snape snaps my attention back to the classroom of staring eyes.
I start to introduce myself, including the basics in hopes of meeting some possible new acquaintances. I scan across the classroom in search of anyone else I might recognize, and immediately spot the silver-blonde hair at the back of the classroom. My eyes lock with his and I unknowingly smile, seeing the empty spot next to him and Blaise Zabini. He quickly breaks eye contact though, flourished, and begins to quickly flip through his book. What's his problem? Does he not recognize me? Shit, do I look that different without makeup-
I look away and avert my attention back to Snape, who searches the room and counts the seats quickly with his wand.
"Anders, please take your seat next to Mr. Malfoy and Mr. Zabini in the back."
