"And live on The Buzz, please welcome the popular Philippine showbiz duo, bestfriends Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo!" Tito Boy exclaimed as the audience yelled and clapped while DJ and Kath were sitting, smiling and waving to the audience.
"Hello Tito Boy," they both simultaneously said.
"It's nice to see you two again. First off, I'm just going to jump right onto the ship and get to the point. There are rumours going around that you two have taken your friendship to the next level. I'm going to ask Kath. Is this true or not?" Tito Boy asked as he crossed his legs, rested his head on his hand and looked at Kath from behind his thick framed glasses.
"To be honest, there's something I haven't told DJ yet..." Kath nervously answered as she looked down at her lap then back up to look at DJ.
Feeling his stomach flutter at the anticipation. DJ looked at Kath as she started to bite her bottom lip. A habit she picked up whenever she was nervous. Feeling a shaking soft small hand touch his, his chest felt constricted and like he couldn't breathe as she held the mic up with a shaky hand to continute talking.
"I hope to take our friendship to be more than bestfriends. That is, if DJ's willing to take that next step with me..."
Shrieks and screams rang out throughout the studio as Tito Boy sat there speechless at Kath's revelation. DJ sat there dumbfounded, questioning if he was dreaming or not. Completely blown away by what she just admited, DJ did the only thing that came to his mind. He leaned foward, turned Kath's face towards him and ki-
*You got that James Deen day dream look in your eyes and I got that red lip classic thing that you like!*
"What Bal!?" DJ crankily answered as he silently reminded himself to change his ringtone. He didn't mind Kath's obsession with Taylor Swift, just as long as it didn't mess with his sleep and his dreams about the girl on the other line. If his dreams were the closest thing he could have to being with her, then he wanted no interruptions.
"DJ....I-I-I'm sorry, this is stupid. I shouldn't have called..." a whisper resonated followed by a mix between a hiccup and a sniffle then a click as she quickly ended the call.
"Wait,wait,wait. Kath!?....Kath?"
Feeling a chill run down his spine, DJ quickly sat up on his bed. Concern and panic washed through his body like a flood. He remembered that tone of her voice in a heartbeat. He heard it when she cried to him about her first encounter with a basher, he heard it when she cried to him about her first crush, and her second. He painfully knew that sound from anywhere. Kath was upset about something and crying.
Quickly getting off his bed, not caring about changing his t-shirt that was worn three days in a row and his shorts that were stained with the milkshake she made him last night, DJ quickly slipped on his favourtie pair of Vans Kath customized for him. He didn't want to waste any time to change because one second being without her was one second wasted in his life. Phone in his hand, he opened his gate and took off in a sprint towards her house.
As DJ turned a corner he came to a full stop infront of Kathryn's house in record time. 5.25 minutes. Still trying to catch his breath, DJ nodded at the guard and ran past the gate as he let him inside her lot. Passing by the front door, he walked towards the back and tapped on the window with the only lights on illuminating the room behind it. Seeing Kath's shocked tear stained face, DJ waited as she opened then window and climbed inside.
"DJ. What are you doing here? It's 3 in the morning. If Mama and Papa hear you-"
"Don't Mama and Papa me, Kath. They love me. I'm hear because you called me crying and interrupted my amazing dream," DJ interrupted, faintly grinning at the thought of his dream, "what happened Bal? Why did you call me and not him?"
Feeling tears well up in her eyes at the thought. Kath sat on her bed and fell back, covering her eyes with her forearm not wanting DJ to see her cry again. If there was one thing she hated the most, it was making DJ see her cry.
"We broke up. He was using me to get to my co-star. End of story," she quickly explained, not wanting to get into the full details. She already knew how DJ was and if he found out, she'd have more problems to deal with. Like saving herself from embarrassment and getting her bestfriend out of jail. She didn't want him ever finding out that her ex-boyfriend was jealous of her bestfriend.
Feeling a weight drop beside her and the bed dip, she lifted her arm from her eyes to see DJ, his head propped up on his hand, looking over her with an indescribable look on his face. A mix of anger along with hope? Relief? Happiness?
"He's an idiot. The next time I see him, I'm going to kick his ass," DJ replied, angry that a guy would ever want to do that to her yet relieved because she was free and could finally make his move.
"I'm not even mad about that. I'm mad and angry and sad at myself because I always trust the wrong people... Ugh, I just want to get away," Kath ranted as she stood up, fists clenched, not in anger but because she was so close, yet so far.
"Your birthday's in a month Kath, I'll buy us tickets to Santorini and we can eat all the pasta and gelato we want." DJ explained, still laying down on her bed, playing with a frayed piece of string on the duvet he got for her for two Christmas's ago.
Kath turned her head to look at DJ and smiled as he looked up at her with his famous "Padilla" grin. Feeling blood rush to her cheeks, Kath cursed DJ and that stupid charm of his.
"You always know what to say to make me smile DJ. You're always here for me, you know that? One day you're going to finally meet a girl and she's going to be the luckiest girl in the world. Then you won't be here as much anymore," Kath said as she grew somber at the thought.
DJ's smile turned into a frown as his eyebrows scrunch up, slightly disturbed by the thought, "don't say that."
The only person he wished all the luck on was the woman sitting right beside him.
"It's true DJ. No matter what situation, you're always here for me." she explained as she wiped a stray tear falling from her soft cheek. DJ stood up, grabbed her hand and held it against his heart tightly. This feeling was better than any dream he could ever imagine. Deciding that he couldn't spend another second imagining what could be, DJ rubbed his thumb across Kath's hand as he looked into her brown doe eyes.
"I'm always here for you because you're always here for me."
Looking up at DJ, feeling his soft hands firmly grip hers and his heartbeat beneath her palm like she was holding in his heart in her hands, she felt an emotion take over her. An emotion she tried to hide years and years ago but would always surface during the littlest moments like these. Now looking into his eyes, it was like she was looking into a mirror from 3 years ago. It was the look on her face and in her eyes when she woke up that one day and realized that she was in love with DJ. Kath bit her lip nervously as she looked into DJ's eyes that were staring back at her with anxiously.
Feeling a shaking soft small hand touch the one that wasn't holding her other hand to her heart, DJ's chest felt constricted, like he couldn't breathe as she nervously smiled at him. Feeling like he was experiencing deja-vu, DJ felt his stomach start to flutter with anticipationg and held his breath as he waited for Kath to speak.
"To be honest, there's something I've haven't told you yet..."
“You know you're in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.”
