I feel the car come to a stop. I slowly open my eyes. We are at a gas station. "Good Morning sleeping beauty." I look over at Trevor who is giving me a smirk. I weakly punch him on the shoulder. he gets out and starts to pump the gas. I look at the navigation route and we are about half-way there. I slept for about an hour. I get out of the car, and stretch my legs. The position I was in made my legs really stiff.
"I'm going to head inside." I tell Trevor I hear him mummer okay. I walk inside like your normal gas station. I start walking the aisles, looking for something to eat. I finally settled on a protein bar. Knowing we are probably going to stop to get a full meal in about a hour.
"Oh my god. April young is that you?" I hear a man's voice say from behind me. I turn to look at the man. He looks familiar, his blonde hair in tight curls, and his skin is a light pale. I look into the emerald green eyes that seem so familiar. I see him notice my look of confusion. "Thomas Lynn, someone I know I have changed, but you have to remember your lab partner." Right when he says that I remember exactly who this man is. "Thomas, wow you have changed." It is truth that Thomas I knew was my lab partner who had big bulky glasses and always wore button up shirts.
"Yeah, yeah. I ditched the glasses and have found some style since then." He says as we both let out some awkward laughs. I notice that he looks me up and down. "Well you definitely look good. Grant you always looked good." I give him a nervous smile. I was about to say something else, but I feel a pair of strong arms wrap around my waist. "Are you ready, babe?" My cheeks flush a light shade of pink. I can see the look on Thomas's face as he looks Trevor up and down. Obvious that he is intimidated. "Yeah, I'm ready. It was good to see you again Thomas." I give him a smile before Trevor and I start walking to the counter. "Hey April, are you going to the reunion?" I turn back to Thomas giving him a nod. "Yeah we planned on it." I tell him over my shoulder.
Trevor pays for our stuff as he pushes me out the door. I let out a giggle, as we got into he car. I watch Trevor climb into the car, I keep my eyes on him. Trevor notices my staring and look over at me. "Can I help you?" he asks with a smirk. "Oh nothing, babe." I emphasize the "babe", knowing he has never called me that since we started dating. His cheeks flush red. I let out a laugh and pointed my finger at him.
He starts the car and starts driving. "Don't even say it." My laughing continues. "You were jealous." I reach over and poke him in the stomach. He lets out a low chuckle. "Maybe I was so." I can hear the hint of mischief in his voice. "So, jealousy looks hot on you." I give him a mischievous smirk. He gives me a wink as he looks back towards the road.
"Who was he anyway?" I let out a sigh "He was my old lab partner back in high-school, I think back then he had a crush on me. But I never gave anyone one the chance." I laugh. "You gave me a chance." I roll my eyes at him. "I'm a very different person than who I was in high-school." he lets out a small laugh. "Well we have four more hours till we are in Millbank, so tell me, babe, who were you in high-school?"
Who was I in high-school, definitely not the girl Trevor is dating. I was a nerd. I was quiet, shy, and insecure with myself. I was always ashamed of my body image. I think that's the reason for me being such a fitness geek. It also didn't help that I always had to live up to my sister's image. She was athletic, she was popular, she was the golden child. I never really went to live out of her shadow until I moved to Denver and started living my life.
I tell all of this to Trevor as he sits quiet listening, he gives me a smile here and there. When I reach the end of the story I notice some tears falling from my eyes. I let out a laugh as I wiped then away. Trevor reaches over and grabs my hand, rubbing circles with his hands, rubbing circles with his thumb.
