When I finally came to, on my aunts' pull out couch, I felt my whole body jolt with a lot of pain when I tried to get up. The first thing I noticed was I was completely bandaged up with a couple of cereal bars and two juice boxes on the table next to me. The second thing I noticed was my aunt was still in the living room waiting for me to wake up.  She looked exhausted and genuinely angry, "A-auntie Meg why are you still here? Don't you you have a shift down at the ER?" My aunt is an overworked, underpaid and dedicated pediatric doctor who I consider to be my only family. Aunt Meg jumped at the sound of my voice and her enraged expression softened immediately as she nearly ran to the couch.  She gently grabbed my face and looked me in the eyes."Sweetie don't worry about that! Just focus on eating and going back to sleep. I called your school and told them you would be late, and I set out a pair of Daxon's old shoes by the door." She told me as she grabbed the med kit from the other table  and kneels down. Daxon is my older cousin who bullies me with his friends at school.

Aunt Meg grabs my leg and unwraps a bloodied bandage from my right foot. " You must have ran into to glass after trying to escape that bastard" She whispers more to herself than me, after she cleans the cuts on my foot she re-bandages it and gets up. She turns to look at me and nearly cries " Why won't you just come stay with me and Daxon? You don't have to go back there!" She chokes on her words but we both know why I don't stay. Aunt Meg can barely afford to take care of herself let alone me and Daxon. "You know why Auntie.. I'll be okay" I know I'm lying but we both ignore it as I open my arms out for a hug. As we hug I nearly bust from the achy sensation in my body, but I clench my teeth and tell myself " don't make her worry anymore than she is right now you idiot!! " Aunt Meg lets go first to check her watch; It's nearly 6 am so I know she's gonna barely make it to the hospital. "Shit! I'm gonna be late, Mari don't forget to eat those cereal bars and go back to sleep; school doesn't start for another two hours!" She grabs her bag and runs out the door. I just sit there, dreading going to school. I know not to go back to sleep because Daxon is most likely still in the house and I don't feel like getting beat up right now so I bite my tongue and get up. I grab the food Aunt Meg left and put on Daxons' old shoes. Opening the door and grabbing the backpack I always hide here I step outside, making my way towards hell.
