 LILY EVANS WAS UNSURPRISED TO find Hazel Proctor, all by herself in a compartment. Everything about the scene just screamed Hazel; the girl bent over a notebook with a pen in her hand and her wand tucked behind one of her pierced ears (a habit that Hazel admitted she learned from her father some years ago). Lily knew that the girl was likely working on last minute quidditch notes.

She was silent as she put her things away, a shrink charm and tucked neatly into the overhead bin, and took her seat from across from the girl. Lily Evans could feel her heart as it threatened to beat out of her chest. She was nervous. Why wouldn't she be? She's only sat in front of the girl that she's fancied for the past nine months and this was the same girl that made Lily realize she might possibly like girls rather than boys. Her nails scratched at the inside of her wrists, softly, and she bit down on her bottom lip. Nervous ticks.

Hazel Proctor could feel the stare of Lily's green eyes, and looked up from her notebook. She capped her pen as she smiled at the girl. Hazel sat back, her back touching the cool leather of the seat and she watched as Lily pulled her knee up, wrapping her arms around her leg. Hazel knew that she was nervous— it was quite obvious to anyone that knew Lily Evans.

"Why are you staring at me, Evans?" Hazel teased playfully, a smirk settling on her glossed lips. "You'd think I've grown a third eye."

Lily laughed; breathlessly and nervously. She rubbed at her forehead, doing anything that could settle her nerves. Get it together.

"You know how Potter is practically infatuated with me, right?" Lily questioned, and Hazel nodded. "Well, I recently discovered as to why I'm not attracted to him, like the way you are." Lily noticed the slight blush that rose to her friend's cheek, but Hazel remained quiet and allowed for Lily to continue with her train of thought. "I — uhm, I don't like boys, Haz. There's this Hufflepuff girl that I've been writing letters too, and she's helped me realize that I'm gay."

A big grin spread out on Hazel's lips. "That's great!" She exclaimed, almost out of the ordinary for the usually quiet girl. "I'm proud of you, Lils. No, that's really great."

Lily released a breath, one she didn't know she was holding, and a small smile also made home on her face. It felt like a ton of bricks had been lifted from her chest, and she felt that she could finally breath again and it felt great. It felt good to own her truth.

"You really don't mind?"

"Lily, you're my best friend. Your sexuality won't change the fact that I love you." Hazel explained as she closed her notebook (this was no time for quidditch). "Although, I'd happily sit through detention with Filch if someone decides to give you trouble for dating girls. Does anybody else know?"
