((Holy crap, I had no idea how much everybody liked my story! Will continue!))

You started your slow walk home, the sun slipping beneath the horizon amd setting a pink shimmer through the sky. Your fpotsteps were lonely as they fell on the concrete. No one else was out here.

No one except for you.

You were on your own, excluding nameless cars and other vehicles that carelessly passed you by, their drivers not questioning why a school-aged girl was on her own so late. But you didn't care for them, either. All that was priority in your mind was the situation when you would get home.

"_____, why are you late?" your Mom would ask.

"Nothing, Mom." you would blatantly reply without looking at her. "Just got sidetracked by a teacher, that's all."

"Which teacher?"

"Why does that matter?"

"Sweetie, I've never heard this kind of tone from you. Is something the matter?"

"Mom, I already told you what happened."

"Are you seeing somebody? 'Cause I don't mind if-"

"SHUT UP!"

Things would get ugly after that point, amd you preffered that it wouldn't happen. You just kept walking, your mind rewinding and replaying slightly altered scenarios. It was almost as if you were dreaming-

"Aiyah! _____! Watch where you're going!"

A pair of arms grabbed your torso and yanked you backwards, snapping you breathlessly put of your head. You looked to see a pair of golden eyes, wide with fear.

"Wha...huh?" you couldn't completely comprehend what had just happened.

"It's me, Yao!" the familiar clicky Chinese voice sounded in your ear. "You almost got hit by a car!"

You looked ahead, and saw that you were now resting on a curb, only a few inches a swarm of cars making their way in the same direction. It took a moment to register that Yao had just saved your life.

"What are you doing out here so late, ____? It's almost dark."

"I was about to ask you the same question."

"I was over at Kiku's, studying, and now I'm going home. You?"

"I..." you nearly choked, "was going home."

"Oh?" his eyebrows jumped up. "Want me to walk with you?"

You shook your head, looking down.

"Oh..."

You stood up abruptly. "Goodbye, Yao." You got up and began walking away.

"Oh, uh....bye!"

For some reason, he didn't question why you were walking in the opposite direction of that you were before...
