I'm about to make the biggest mistake.
Those had been the words Lukas Summers had thought to himself before he, indeed, made a big mistake. They seemed, in these most recent years, to be his mantra. Everyday repeated, spoken aloud, or thought right before he did something he knew he was bound to regret, and this time was no exception.
"Well," A nasal voice spoke from somewhere behind Lukas, "That was fun, wasn't it?" He suppressed a groan, but did, however, roll his eyes. Not even bothering to respond to his companion, Lukas sat up and reached for his pants. In one swift motion, he had slid on his worn-out blue jeans and was reaching for his discarded shirt.
"Leaving so soon?"
Lukas looked up. The girl had moved out from behind him and now stood at the entrance of the room. Conveniently blocking my exit, Lukas thought bitterly, The sooner I leave the better. He let his eyes look over the girl yet again, though the disinterest in his gaze remained. Nellie Jacobson. All five feet five inches of narcissism, bitchiness, and more than likely insanity. And you just fucked around with her...again, He thought rather dejectedly. Her ashy blonde hair was wild and tangled, a sign of the events that had transpired between the two of them moments ago. There were dark smudges of makeup under her large doe eyes, which, Lukas had noticed, were a rather dull shade of blue.
Lukas tried to hide his grimace. She was attempting sensuality; trying to be alluring, leaning against the door frame in the way she was. He clenched his jaw and stood, now fully dressed. It only took one stride for him to reach the door, and Nellie by default.
"Yes, Nellie," His voice was cool, his tone matching the disinterest in his gaze, "I am."
The sultry look on Nellie's face dropped, momentarily replaced by one of shock and possibly hurt, before it was replaced by feigned indifference. She moved from the doorway, and with that, he walked past and made his way to work.
Regret. That's all Lukas was feeling as he made the trek to Marie's Meats and Market. He couldn't seem to let the emotion go. All he wanted to do was forget about his lapse in judgment, but that didn't seem to be written in his stars. And if the events at Nellie's, which were playing continuously through his mind, weren't reminder enough of his mistake, the fact that he reeked of sex was.
"I need a fucking shower," He grumbled, running his long fingers through his thick brown hair. He pushed through the knots in an attempt to fix his "bed" head.
Lukas had just walked through the immaculately kept town square and was rounding the corner of Ashford and Hanson when Marie's Meats and Market came into view. The white building, with chipping paint and exposed brick, looked almost ancient from afar. Lukas was slightly amazed that this old decrepit looking building still managed to get as much business as it did. Perks of being the only grocery store in this small ass town, I guess.
