a sunny day

He was on his way to the airport and he couldn't have felt more restless. Something inside him was all wrong and he just couldn't figure it out. He was stuck in traffic and the clouds were clearing up, just enough to see the blue sky. He checked the time and started getting worked up about missing his flight when the clouds shifted in just the right way to have a streak of sunlight fall onto his face. The sudden heat alarmed him, but put him to ease in less than a second. As he recollected the beautiful moment, he'd had with her on a day much like today, all he could do was sigh in contentment.

He took her out for a picnic the next day and even the slightest bit of rain would not drown her happiness. He loved seeing her like that. All he could think about was how he could make sure she would always stay like this.

As she skipped up to the tree where they had decided to set up the picnic, she suddenly bent down and started giggling. He ran up to her, not to see what she was giggling at but rather to listen to her giggle and commit to his memory for he never wanted to forget her being like this. He bent down and smiled at her.

"Aren't you going to ask me why I was laughing?" she asked while the twinkle in her eyes refused to die.

"One, you were giggling like a school girl, not laughing and two, no." He said as he took in all of her beauty, even though he wasn't sure that was possible.

"Now, that's just perpetuating stereotypes, isn't it?" She said with a hint of mischief in her voice along with the gleam in her eyes.

He smirked as he swiftly picked her up and set her down at their picnic. After finishing up, he noticed her smiling at the sun, with her eyes closed.

"I know you're staring; you know? Don't think me weird but I love the sun. It represents happiness for me. It's always so bright and it's never afraid to show it. Just feeling the heat course through my body, it makes me feel so grateful. Like when you were talking about the rain yesterday. The sun, to me, gives me life; it shows me just a glimpse of what peace feels like, which is not very different from staring at someone you love, you know?" She said wistfully.

"Yeah, I know exactly what you're talking about" He said, as he stared at her, knowing fully well that she was everything he was ever going to need.
