Small Things (The Good Stuff)

"Ohhh, while you were dancing with some other girl?" She finished.

He smiled. "It's not even like that. They want us to make every girl in there feel special."

"So, why are you out here with me?"

"C'mon, Mandy," he said reaching for her hand. "You know I care about you. And it's hot in there and I was concerned."

"If you're so concerned, how come you didn't bring me any wa—" Tucker pulled a bottle of water from inside of his robe. She smirked. "This is warm."

"You already have one, so cut me a break, babe."

"Don't..."

Tucker put his hands up. "Sorry."

Miranda took a deep breath. "Thank you. For the water." She nudged him with her body and dropped her head onto his shoulder, tired. She sipped water as they sat in silence. This was the Tucker she knew, the non-asshole one. The one who truly loved her. "So, why did you tell Ben about this party? You knew there was a chance I'd be here."

"It's... my job to get as many people here as possible." She looked at him trying to see if he was actually telling the truth. "Plus, I didn't think he'd actually come. I was being facetious when I mentioned it."

"Well, he did." He sucked his teeth. "Though I know that's not what you expected to get out of it."

"You're right, I didn't," he said through gritted teeth. Miranda snickered. "Well, I have to get going." He stood up. "Come back inside with me."

"No, I need a few more minutes."

"Mandy, you have your water, we turned on the fans. And you owe me a dance."

"Thanks, but no thanks," Miranda said waving him off.

Tuck sat back on the floor and put his head on her shoulder, pouting. Their lips were so close together. It felt like last night and she almost fell into that rhythm. But she also knew what would be the end result—heartache.

"I guess you found Terri," Ben said walking down the long hallway. Miranda shook Tucker off of her. Ben's face read: pissed. He stopped in front of them.

She stood up slowly. "Tucker just brought me water." She held it up.

"Yeah. Right," Ben said his eyes darting from her to Tucker who grinned.

"Glad that you were able to make it, bruh," Tucker said. "And I really did just bring my girl some water."

"Tucker, stop it now," Miranda told her ex-boyfriend, glaring at him. "Just go."

"Welp," Tucker started, "I have to get back. See you two around."

Ben and Miranda waited until he was back inside of the room to speak. "I was in there waiting for you," he said fiercely. "Like an idiot. I brought you water." He pulled a water from his pocket, pulling his

Her heart was so full. "I was coming back. I needed air. I couldn't breathe," she told him, her voice strong. She didn't want him to believe anything other than the truth. That could ruin everything. His face changed. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to sound like a jerk."

"Thank you for waiting. And for the water. I feel bad for making you wait."

"No, no. It's my fault. I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions."

Miranda sat back down and he sat next to her. "I really was coming back."

"I was hoping you would," he said smiling at her. "I had a good time dancing with you." Miranda blushed hard.
