Prologue: The Days Before the Storm

There was only one man who claimed to remember the times before the storm. Many called him mad, delusional; or out right insane....

"Come children, gather around, let me tell ye of the times before the storm..."

The world was vast and prosperous; enough land and supplies for generations to come. Trade and peace was plentiful, while piracy and crime was scarce. Many kingdoms shared the seas with their massive fleets, living amongst each other in harmony.

But that was a time before the world began to speak for itself. Humanity may have lived together happily; but the world around them was crumbling. Landscapes were torn down, forests, fields, and even the water itself was destroyed and polluted by us.

"...it was time for the world to regain its life...."

Swiftly and seemingly out of nowhere natural disasters wreaked havoc across the world. From the small villages to the mightiest kingdoms; nothing was free from its terror. The world began to swallow itself whole.

"...and then the darkness came..."

Out of the storms and destruction arose a new race; something sinister and dark. Those that managed to survive the first wave were not so lucky during the second. Driven from their home and lands the survivors took to the sea.

A massive storm cloud surrounded the waters for as far as the eye can see. Their homes were lost within this creation; and their destiny laid before them. The ocean was their new home.

"....we thrived as we always had, making due with what we could..."

Civilization began to repair itself, but at a deep cost. Kingdoms had no rights to these new lands and piracy began to rule. It was killed or be killed, kingdoms banding together to face a new threat; themselves. As time passed the story of days before the storm grew to a myth as the older generations passed on.

"...and that kids is the story—"

A blade struck the old man from behind; cleaving him from the darkness of the corner his chair sat upon. Sputtering up blood his body fell limp and the children screamed...

....but their screams faded into the night.
