WW1 Remembrance Poem

Graves upon graves
Row upon row
Ashes to snow
Off to save us
To war they go

1914 the war begins
Two bullets caused it
Which side will win?

They sign up
Pals battalion
They run out of luck
All as one, men and stallion

Without realising you're there
But at the same time you know
This nightmare
Will never go

Graves upon graves
Row upon row
Ashes to snow
Off to save us
To war they go

Noise surrounds me
Overwhelms me
The stench of death
This could be your final breath

The mud that sinks into your boots
Without thinking you shoot
It's us or them
You've lost count of the dead men

Another shot, another scream
You hope it's just a horrible dream
You look at your feet, down at the ground
Where your best friend lies, not making a sound

Graves upon graves
Row upon row
Ashes to snow
Off to save us
To war they go

Children pretending to be men
A life that's a lie
A million and ten
Are going to die

Nationalism, Imperialism, Nationalism and Alliances
Other countries are inferior
Treated like household appliances
Things just got a lot scarier

Each of them heroes
In their own way
On the front line
To save the day

Graves upon graves
Row upon row
Ashes to snow
Off to save us
To war they go

The "Great War" they said
It wasn't so great
A monster under the bed
Caused a whole world of hate
