WW1 Remembrance Poem
Graves upon graves
Row upon row
Ashes to snow
Off to save us
To war they go1914 the war begins
Two bullets caused it
Which side will win? They sign up
Pals battalion
They run out of luck
All as one, men and stallionWithout realising you're there
But at the same time you know
This nightmare
Will never goGraves upon graves
Row upon row
Ashes to snow
Off to save us
To war they goNoise surrounds me
Overwhelms me
The stench of death
This could be your final breathThe mud that sinks into your boots
Without thinking you shoot
It's us or them
You've lost count of the dead menAnother shot, another scream
You hope it's just a horrible dream
You look at your feet, down at the ground
Where your best friend lies, not making a soundGraves upon graves
Row upon row
Ashes to snow
Off to save us
To war they goChildren pretending to be men
A life that's a lie
A million and ten
Are going to dieNationalism, Imperialism, Nationalism and Alliances
Other countries are inferior
Treated like household appliances
Things just got a lot scarierEach of them heroes
In their own way
On the front line
To save the dayGraves upon graves
Row upon row
Ashes to snow
Off to save us
To war they goThe "Great War" they said
It wasn't so great
A monster under the bed
Caused a whole world of hate
