Debilitating

"Lynch... please get up," a feminine voice quietly begged. I groaned a bit as I felt that my arm was very much broken.

"Alright... hang on," I muttered as I noticed my helmet's visor was cracked badly. "Shoot, a lot of things hurt." Grabbing my broken arm I sat down and ripped the sling from my rifle and made a makeshift sling.

"At least you're okay," she muttered to be a bit garbled on account of my busted helmet. "My chip is undamaged, thankfully however, the rest weren't so lucky." I looked around and took the scene in seeing the mangled bodies. "Quite the lucky guy aren't you."

"Not fully," I remarked as I activated the emergency release to the Pelican's hatch climbing out and landing hard on sandy ground. "Where are we, Olga... I hope we're near a shipyard."

"Approximately three miles from the evacuation point, comms are... unreliable," she said a bit deflated. "Odds are you'll need to destroy me."

"Don't talk like that, we'll make it, don't you worry about me, they'll fix me up... they always fix everything," I muttered as I started limping in the path of the waypoint that was set up. "Talk to me Olga, tell me about yourself," I muttered.

"Well... I'm researching AI with knowledge on ancient alien structures, similar to Cortana, though I'm a bit less... less," she trailed off trying to find the phrase.

"Independent," I finished for her only for her to yip a little bit. "You okay Olga?"

"Yeah... thank you," she muttered sighing a bit. "I... I haven't seen an actual fresh dead body before... I wasn't intended for the combat support role."

"Yeah, you told me, egg head AI right," I said plainly. I heard a distorted chuckle and shook the laugh off as I carried on limping. I took cover near a rock outcropping noticing several banshee's. "Just... gotta survive," I muttered.

"If this was a mjonir suit I might be able to do a better job... but all things considered I'm... relieved you retrieved me," Olga muttered to me as I took notice of a flipped damaged Mongoose. "Finally some transportation," She said a bit ecstatic.

"Alright just don't get your hopes up... still a long drive," I reminded her. Thoughts raced through my mind as I thought about the events that transpired earlier but kept it deep down for later. "Think anyone else got out," I asked as I started on the drive. It was hard going but we were making good distance at least for a while.  Off to the distance, I could see what amounted to the mop-up fleet of Covenant warships. A long sigh left my mouth as I stopped the mongoose just looking on in awe and hopelessness. "How... how bad," I asked aloud.

"Most of the fleet was annihilated... the surviving orbital platforms abandoned, we just hold on now," Olga said as I sighed.

"Hold out... against that, going to need a lot of spartans, we're fucked either way," I huffed out as he returned my foot to the footwell and accelerated on to a designated crash survivor rally point, had to be someone else there just had to be someone.
