Just as planned, the cleanup operation began, except there really isn't anything to clean up.

Just as said before, the explosion pretty much decimated the island, turning a majority of the island into a barren wasteland, around 95% of the island has been deformed and severely damaged, save for some coastline and areas protected by some hills or other rises in terrain, as well as some areas of the port.

From ground zero and up, is a sight similar to the Tunguska explosion of 1908, trees fell outwards, buildings and structures reduced to their foundation, and the underground facility buried after the ground on top of it collapsed due to structural failure caused by the explosion

Tunguska Event, 1908

Among the rubbles, debris, and destruction that filled the island, the cleanup team still managed to find several things, such as intact weapons, remnants of the zuccers, rooms containing properties belonging to the island's inhabitants that was saved because of partial burial, corpses, and so on, they never found Francis, but it was assumed that he was obliterated in the explosion.

The first cleanup operation isn't as long as it was planned due to the circumstance, so the island responsibility was given back to Mushroom Kingdom earlier than it was supposed to.

And because the second cleanup operation began earlier, so does the assessment and evaluation as per the original plan, it went like any other assessment and evaluation would, although they do agree on one thing, their plan was okay, but not enough.

Firstly, they underestimated the enemy, this is because Mushroom Kingdom assured that the enemy wasn't as big of a threat than they actually are, even though they knew about the enemy's strength, they do not know about the Inkweaver's strength, since SMG4's gang didn't participate in the planning, they were assigned as regular soldiers, which led to them massively undermining the pen, believing that it wouldn't cause. much of a threat towards the operation.

Secondly, they weren't exactly prepared for the operation, their forces were, for the most part, enough and adequate for the battle, but they are not trained and equipped enough for fighting against stronger and especially fantasy originated enemy opposition, such as the Sephiroths, this applies to both SAF and MKAF, although the latter fared better in terms of capabilities against enemies, but still, they are incapable of defeating the Sephiroths at that moment, which a number of regular and special forces could already do, such as the UNSC and Spetsnaz.

Not only that, they could've used some support units, such as a mortar team, or a self propelled artillery, which could've made their mission much easier.

Lastly, their planning.

Even though their plan was okay for the most part, there are flaws present that caused defects in the outcome of the operation, the plan lacks cooperation between the two task forces, especially on the landing division as both sides worked on different tasks without any initiative from the plans to assist one another, essentially separating them, any sort of assistance had only been done at one of the last moments of the battle, and even then it was only an attempt to bolster the amounts of remaining soldiers on one side, basically, had they entered the base with an enough number of troops, they wouldn't have asked for help at all.
