                                    Alexis' POV:

It's the first day of my senior year of high school now, and I'm not ready to graduate this year. It seems like yesterday was my first day of kindergarten and where I first met Luke.

I was awakened by my alarm clock screaming at me. "5 more minutes!" I thought to myself. It's 6 A.M. I haven't been on the best sleep schedule lately. It feels like I can never get enough sleep. It's just my body catching up to me staying up until 3 A.M.

I started to doze off when I heard a knocking at my bedroom door. "Honey, it's time to wake up. It's your last year of high school." My mom said softly. In the last 11 years of school she would wake me up by screaming and it would scare me awake. I didn't like that very much, she learned quick not to do that.

"Okay, okay mom. I'm getting up." I said sitting up on my bed and stretching. I yawned and slipped on my house shoes. I opened my bedroom door to head downstairs to the kitchen.

"What's for breakfast? Nothing again?" I said grudgingly.

"Honey, you know I don't have the money to keep buying food when you always want a new phone for your birthday and Christmas." she said as she frowned.

"Don't buy me phones then if you can't take care of your kids properly. Maybe if you didn't adopt so many animals, you could actually worry about your children for a change" I rolled my eyes at that thought. She's always making excuses for the dumbest reasons. I know she doesn't love us either, but she has to put on this mask to cover up the beatings she gives my brother and I everytime we make a mistake.

"Don't give me attitude or you'll regret it like last time. You're smart talk is getting out of hand. I won't take it anymore" she said as she grabbed her cup of coffee in both hands and blew the steam off of it.

She thinks so highly of herself. Little does she know she's not as perfect as she thinks she is.

"Whatever, I'm getting ready for school." I say while walking up the stairs to my room. I yawn as I grabbed my black Nirvana smiley shirt, my black skinny jeans, my black socks, my white Converse. I put everything on and head to the bathroom to straighten my hair. I don't even bother putting on makeup. It just makes me uglier than I already am.

I dyed my hair black a couple years ago. My hair was always a light brown. I had to pursue my grunge look with black hair.

I brush my teeth and head out the door. I turned around to look at my house as I wait for the bus to arrive. I used to love my home. Now I look at it with disgust. I can't stand the look of it anymore.

The bus drove up to my house and I stepped on when the doors opened. I sat in my usual seat, next to the window. Luke always sits next to me. He's my only friend and the only one who understands me and what I go through at home. He's not too different than I am.

We took off to the next stop at Luke's house. He steps on the bus and heads straight to my seat. He sits right next to me and sighs.

"Bad day?" I questioned as I look out the window.

"Always" he says with a frown. I feel bad for him. Him out of all people doesn't deserve what he goes through. He needs to get out of this town. We both do. New York isn't the place for us. Somewhere far away is where we need to go.

We stopped to pick up a couple more students and head to the school. We both walk off the bus and head to homeroom. We arrive at school later now, so we don't have time to eat breakfast. It doesn't bother us. We are used to it by now. We haven't had a proper breakfast since 2nd grade. Isn't that sad? Ha!

As the day went on, we didn't really speak until lunch time. We always loaded up on food and ate like animals.

"Wanna go to the park after school? It will get us away from our parents for awhile." Luke asked as he took a bite of his cheeseburger.

"Sounds like a plan" I say, taking a bite of my hamburger. I see him nod while scarfing down the rest of his food.

The end of the school day came and we both walked out the door. Luke took my hand and drug me to the park across town. We always go to this one so no one recognizes us and tells our parents.

He took me up the tallest tree, into our safe space. The treehouse. Where we could always go to getaway. We sat down on the wood floor and looked out the window.

"How much longer until dark?" I ask.

"An hour" he reassured me, finally letting go of my hand.

We sat there for what seemed like forever when he looked over at me and asked "You're my best friend, right?"

I laughed "Of course silly, what kind of question is that?"

"You wont stop being my friend, right?" he said, scooting closer to me.

I hesitated, "What's going on?"

"I've been waiting to tell you this for quite some time now. I guess this is the right time" he said as he looked down at his hands.

"Just tell me already!" I said impatiently.

"My family and I are moving to Australia in 2 months. I won't have contact with you or anyone while I'm gone."

My face dropped. I was stunned at his words. I freaked out and started screaming at him. "So you're just gonna wait until I have a little time left with you to tell me that you're moving across the world and won't have contact with me?!"

He continued to look at his hands and flinched at my tone. "I'm sorry! I didn't know when was the right time to tell you."

We didn't speak for the rest of the night. We just sat there looking at the night sky. The stars were very prominent.

I was so taken back at the fact he's leaving me in two months. Alone...
