                                                                           Alexis' POV:

It's my first day of kindergarten, and I'm so excited to go to school for the first time. I've been to preschool, but mom says it's not the same. That it's very different from last year.

"Good morning momma! I'm ready for my first day!" I exclaimed.

"I'm so happy to hear that baby," She said, as she wrapped me in a big bear hug.

"What are we having for breakfast?" I said as my tummy started growling.

Mom looked around the kitchen and frowned. "No breakfast at home today honey. You will have to get some at school today. They have yummy food there"

I didn't understand why we couldn't have food here today, but I wasn't complaining. I'm sure the food at school is great as everyone says it is. I put on my best smile and looked at my mother,  "Oh, okay momma. That's okay. I hope there are cereal and toast there. That's my favorite."

"I'm sure there will be baby girl. Now let's get you dressed and ready to ride the bus. You will meet so many friends on there. It will be so much fun. I promise." she said as she guided me upstairs.

"Yay! That sounds exciting!" I said joyfully.

Mom grabs my hand and walks me to my bedroom to pick out a cute outfit for the day. She stuck with a white t-shirt and blue jeans with my pink light up sketchers. She dressed me and helped me put on my ninja turtle backpack.

"Momma, can you brush my hair and put it into braids like you did yesterday?" I said with a gleeful smile.

"Sure thing." As she grabbed my hairbrush and proceeded to brush my hair. She started to part my hair in the middle and braided my hair into two dutch braids.

"Thank you, mom! It's so pretty. I love it"

"I like it too honey. Now let's wait outside until the school bus comes to pick you up for your first day of school"

We walked out the front door onto our wrap-around porch and waited for the school bus to pull up next to our house. I've always loved our house. It's really big and has a huge backyard for our 4 dogs. My little brother doesn't like it when they bark though. It just means they are protecting us from bad guys.

The school bus finally arrived in front of our house and I saw the big door open. I started to get scared, but my mom gave me a big hug and told me it will all be okay.

I walked up to the door and saw the nice lady driving the bus. She gave me a small smile. I smiled back "My name's Alexis and I'm 5. What's your name?"

"My name's Mrs. Shirley. I'll be taking you to school safely. Are you ready?"

I quickly nodded and started walking down the aisle until I found an open seat. I sat down and put my backpack in my lap. I felt the bus start to move as we stopped at another home to pick up another kid.

I watched as a 5-year-old boy stepped onto the bus. He walked down the aisle and looked at me as if he didn't know where to sit.

"You can sit here if you want to" I smile at him, hoping he took that as me being nice. Which I was trying to be. I didn't want to scare him off.

He smiled and sat down next to me. "My name is Alexis. What's your name?" I said with a smile.

"The name is Lucas, but I go by Luke." He said as he looked nervous.

I hold my hand out for a handshake and said  "Now that we know each other's names, we can be friends. Or if you want, we can be best friends."

He takes my hand and gives me a small smile "We can be best friends. I've never had one before" he said as he shakes it.

"This is going to be so fun and we don't live that far from each other. Maybe my mom will let you come over some time." I said as I point out the window.

He didn't say anything and just nodded his head as he looked down at the floor of the bus.

We arrived shortly after the bus left his house. Everyone stood up and walked off the bus. "Do we have class together?" I said as I reached for the paper that said his teacher's name on it. I took it from his hands and read it. I said with a laugh "We do! We are going to have so much fun. My mommy says Mrs. Alexander is so nice."

We held hands as we walked into the cafeteria. We walked to the breakfast line and I saw that there was cereal and toast for all the students. "Yay! They have my favorite! What are you going to get to eat?" I asked him as we picked up our trays.

"I'm not that hungry, I'll just get some toast," he said nervously.

I grabbed a bowl of Lucky Charms and a slice of toast and sat at the table. Luke sat right beside me.

We ate our food in silence and threw away our trash.

As the day went on we talked about our favorite things. When I say we, I actually mean me. Luke didn't talk much.

At the end of the day, we got on the bus and sat beside each other. Until it was my stop. I waved bye to Luke and went inside.

That's how me and Luke became best friends.
