looking ahead past the trees, sira noticed the small line of smoke coming from the east. "ugh finally, we're almost there."
it had to be around noon when sira and john david found hannah by the river. the daylight from the sky was fading, and the shadows of night where grasping the land. the trio kept forward, slowly approaching the small town and gazing upon the small building that made the surroundings.
apart of the town was a popular tavern. the owner of the tavern was known to know everything about everyone, and where many random thing are. her easy voice, sharp memory, and the ability to talk to anyone gave her a positive reputation. many people had made that habit to talk to her about anything and everything. especially when some were caught having to much to drink.
making their stop in front of the tavern, the now trio mounted off there horses. the strong smell of delicious foods and beer welcome them all as they walked in a took a seat at the bar.
"long time no see my friend."
sira looked up with a smile, happy to be greeted by the old friend. reaching out, sira grabbed the friends hand to greet her warmly, "sophia, great to see you again!"
sophia chuckled at her friends child like giddiness. "you haven't gotten into to much trouble have you?"
sira shrugged at sophia's words "ehh, haven't done much. john david and i have just been traveling recently."
"oh really?" sophia questioned, "then whose the new girl with you guys?"
all eyes went to hannah, but her eyes where somewhere else. hannah was lost in thought. on the ride to the distant town, all she could think about was the lives that where lost that day. then the last person she saw crept into her mind. her father, the only person who had the ability to piss her off the most. well, sira was coming into a close second, but that was for another time.just the mere thought of him sent her head into a tizzy. she didn't even say goodbye, she didn't want to say goodbye. in that final moment, she practically hated him.
"hannah, hey hannah, you there."
looking up from her trance, she met the eyes of john david first. him and sophia were the only ones that looked truly concerned, while sira was looking with her oh so famous blank face.
stammering hannah replied "umm y-ea, yea i'm fine."
quickly changing the subject, sophia decided to get food for the three, trying to avoid an awkward situation. complete silence filled the bar area, tending to themselves the three quietly my finish their meal.john david decided that he would be the one to break the silence. "sophia do you have any rooms open for the night?"
"hmm, oh yes, i do have a room open." sophia replied, "but it's only one room with one bed, would that bother you guys?"
sira opened her mouth, preparing to say about her one of her snide comments . but to her dismay, john david answered the question first. "one bed is fine we'll work it out."
"ok," sophia replied, "the room is up stairs to the left." following each other, hannah, john david, and hannah made their way to their room to rest for the night.
the room wasn't as big as everyone expected. though quite quaint, there was a full size bed and a chair in the corner. "i guess the ladies get the bed." stated john david, "i'll just take chair."
sira was the first to respond, "fine by me." with the two moving to their spots for the night, hannah froze in her spot. thoughts raging through her mind as fast as they could go. to everyone's shock, sira was the first to speak "hannah, and oh wanna talk about it?"
"talk about what?" hannah replied confused.
responding sira softly said "talk about what happened that night. i hate to break it to you, but you look like you've been to hell and back"trying to collect her money thoughts hannah respond "you know i just don't want to talk about it tonight." i just wanna sleep it off."
"bullshit" sira thought, but tonight she wasn't going to push her. "ok then, suit yourself" her face flushed red, sira concluded that it was time for the all to rest.
on that note john david sat down and leaned back into his chair trying his best to get comfortable. sira plopped onto the bed. rather stiffly sira moved as close to the edge of the bed as she could giving hannah ample amount of room to lay down herself. hannah copied sira's actions and also stayed as close to the edge as possible. each mutually trying to stay as far apart as possible.
the room fell into a comfortable silence as john david and sira fell asleep. hannah lied awake, thinking about the ones that she had lost all so suddenly. tiredness had finally caught up to hannah. her eyes got heavier by the second and decided to give into sleep.
with her eyes closed, hannah saw two pairs of red eyes appear in the darkness. and with the eyes, came a faint word that only the princess could here.
woodward...
