The Climb

I grab my backpack
Put on my boots
Throw on a coat and a hat
I start up my car and take off
I stop once I'm at a trail
I get out with everything I need
I start my hike to the summit
I avoid strangers
I walk across bridges
I avoid puddles
I watch the birds
I start thinking about everything
I just want it to all end
But instead
I turn up my music
Block out those thoughts with music
I put myself at peace for the time being
I see stone stairs
I'm halfway to the top
I continue on my climb to the top
You can't reach it safely
So after the stairs end
After the path stops
It's all off roading
I like it like this
In life you have a path
Until you graduate high school
Afterwards you make your own
I climb higher and higher
Until I'm finally at the top
I take in the view
Drink some water and just sit there
I stand up once it's too cold to bear
I take off my backpack
Send a message out to everyone
Then I smash it
I look over the edge
A long way down
I walk back a few steps
Take a deep breath
Then run as fast as I can
When I feel nothing below me
I know I've jumped...
