Chapter One
I sat in the airport alone, silently dwelling on the idea of living with eight boys. I rubbed my temple slowly with one hand, while scrolling through my iPhone, searching for a song the completely captured my situation. I found nothing remotely close. Eventually I settled for 'The Lazy Song' because to be honest, today I didn't feel like doing anything. When I woke up this morning, my head hurt like crazy and the first thought I had was a voice telling me to go back to sleep. Forever. I am now completely and utterly regretting pulling myself from my bed and shovelling down a bowl of Cheerios.
I stared blankly at my two large suitcase, wondering what on earth my mother had packed. When she said business 'trip' I was thinking a trip, like, you know, a week or two at the most. Sixth months is not a trip, I didn't believe for a second that my mothers going away was a business thing. This whole situation probably had something to do with some man she'd met, but it wasn't like she ever told me anything. Besides, why would she even consider doing what's best for me? Oh no. My mother always came first. I looked down at my peach coloured skinny jeans, one of the many birthday presents I received on my birthday, which just happened to be the day when my mother told me the 'exciting' news that I'd be living with her high school bestie, Fiona Johnson, her husband Anthony and their 8 boys where some of the richest people in Australia and lived on the sunny Gold Coast. I new one thing for sure, I wasn't going to miss Tasmania's 'nice' cold and rainy weather. When a monotonous voice stated across the PA that I had to bored my flight, I blew a stray blonde hair out of my face before inhaling a large breath and standing up. I wheeled my suitcases over to a woman sitting at a desk, putting tags on passenger's luggage before pushing them away to be packed away on the plane. I shoved mine toward her and handed her my ticket, barely looking at her. She handing me back my ticket before telling me I could go. I could barely find enough energy to thank her. I slowly made my way over to a woman dressed in a green and black uniform with a ridicules hat seated upon her sleek black hair that was so obviously treated with a large amount of product. I gave her my best fake smile, which of course, she returned as its completely part of her job. I handed her my ticket while pondering over the thought of fake smiling actually being included in some sort of instruction booklet. Anne, I discovered her name was after glancing down at her shiny white name tag. Anne tore part of my ticket of her giving me a, 'you can go now' smile. I shoved my ticket in my pale blue and white patterned ruck sack before heading across the run way and into the plane. It was a windy over cast day, the weather mirrored my glum mood. I plugged my ear phones into my iPhone before pressing shuffle. I decided to let fate choose the perfect song. Some random Frog song came on and I quickly scrambled for my iPhone again, not wanting to damage my ears anymore with that hideous sound. After finding a suitable song, I switched my iPhone to airplane mode and shifted in my seat. I was squished up against the window, a large plump lady happened to be siting next to me, making it extremely hard to find a slight window of breathing space. I must have eventually drifted off to sleep, regardless of my awkward position. I almost screamed when someone gently shook my hand and said, "Your plane has arrived Miss Collins!"
"Wha- oh!" I said, jumping from my seat and grappling my back.
"I'm so sorry!" I gushed, my cheeks turning red with embarrassment. My mouth felt dry, signalling to me that I'd been sleeping with my mouth open. My earphones were now our of my ears and tangled in my lap along with my iPhone, which tumbled to the ground when I stood up. I blushed an even darker shade of red and knelt down quickly to pick it up. I different flight attendant to Anne stood over me, smiling warmly. She waited patiently as I shoved my possessions in my bag before practically sprinting from the plane. In shock, I realised I must have stayed asleep for the whole 4 hour flight. I felt shocked at my tiredness, and then remembered staying up late and watching Glee the whole weekend. I wandered into the airport and stood there awkwardly. Realisation washes over me- I had no idea what Fiona and Anthony looked like. Then again, I didn't really need to recognise then because apparently, they recognised me. I was suddenly enveloped in a large warm hug. I peered over the persons shoulder, to see a man smiling warmly at me. I smiled slightly back, that must be Anthony, and this crazy person hugging me must be Fiona. She lent away and smiled at me, cupping my face in her hands as she spoke.
