"Good morning Eiko-san!" whispered Haru, taking the seat behind Eiko, "Today is a wonderful day isn't it?"She ignored him, looking out in the window, looking at the falling cherry blossoms, He blushed when he saw a special someone but then turned away from the window as quickly as I could, "Yes, yes today is a very wonderful day today Kisho-kun."
Haru pouted, "I told you to call me Haru! It's not gonna hurt to call me by my first name. Plus, why are you even wearing a face mask?" He reasoned but got ignored again as their teacher entered the classroom.
"Good morning everyone!" the teacher greeted, "I'll be doing a roll call!"

"Awe, shucks, I forgot my bento!" complained Kitarou, "I'm gonna get some of our deadly cafeteria food." He announced, standing up.
"Wait Rou-kun!" Eiko shouted, then blushed lightly, "You can share with mine. I can't finish all of it anyways." She lied, her bento today was her favorite. Tamagoyaki, octopus sausages, and seasoned rice with a dried plum. It may be little but is was barely half-eaten. "Plus I have ume onigiri for backup anyways." She announced, her stomach getting angry at her.
"Really?!" He shouted, running back to us, "Arigato Ko-chan!" He said, hugging me tightly.
"I can share mine too!" said Haru, mouthful, "Oka-san packed too many." He continued, giving his other bento box to Kitarou.
I then realized something, "Ummm," Blushing like a tomato, I told Kitarou, "You're too close..." Still blushing, I pat his back slightly and awkwardly,
"Oh! Sorry!" He blushed, rubbing his nape, awkwardly, Oh the holy awkward tension...
"Uhm, Anyways, How was the weekend?" She asked, trying to lift the tension, to her attempt.
"It was good!" replied Haru, "Hey Eiko-chan?" he said,
"Hmm?" I replied, snapping my thoughts of Kitarou-kun, "What is it?"
"Your nose is bleeding Ko-chan~" Kitarou hummed, She touched she nose and felt that there is blood dripping,
"T-thanks, but excuse me, I'm gonna go clean up my nose." She told them. Excusing herself, She ran to the girls' bathroom nearest to the rooftop. But it was nowhere her location. Her heart was suddenly beating so fast and it was also getting harder to breathe. When she reached the bathroom, She coughing blood and forget-me-not petals. No. Not again. Please. Not this time. She was frightened. She was sobbing inside. She doesn't want to die yet.
Her breathing was getting more uneven, making her feel like she was inhaling hazardous smoke. Her heart- it was beating fast, faster than a normal heartbeat. It was threatening to break into pieces. She was also coughing more and more blood and petals.
This has never happened to me, why now? She thought but then she heard footsteps.
"Eiko-chan?" Haru ran to her, holding her, "Eiko-chan?!" he shakes her continuously, but all she was seeing is darkness.

"Hanahaki Disease? But I thought it was just a legend!" shouted Haru, he was worried for his friend. "I don't even think she likes someone!" He complained further, while crying.
"Uhm, Can I talk to you for a second?" Rintarou spoke up, he was sad and guilty for his friend, "Of course. Follow me." The doctor said, motioning him and the nurse to follow him.
When they got into a secluded hallway, the doctor spoke, "So, what is it you want to tell us?"
He fidgets with his fingers nervously, he knew something that only he and Eiko knew. "I need to tell you something." He nervously started, "About something Eiko-chan swore to never mention again."
"Well then, continue." The doctor said, "If it is about her you may tell us."
"Eiko-" Rintarou started, "She confessed to one of my classmates months ago..." he continued, the doctor and nurse looked at each other and nodded at him. "She got...rejected... but she said she was fine." He told them, remembering that time, "I once saw her cough up blood and petals, but she said to never tell anyone." He said as a stray tear fell, "But she just stay normal as if nothing is happening. As if she's okay..." he continued as more tears fell, "I was the one to tell her to confess, but I never knew it would be this bad." Rintarou finished.
"Thank you for that information. Are you aware that she is having the Hanahaki Disease?" The nurse asked him but he shook his head no. He never knew from the start. He thought he was dreaming but the reality isn't like what he thought it would be.
"You see, Hanahaki Disease is like a fictional disease where the victim- like your friend- of unrequited love or like one-sided love begins to - in her case- coughs up the petals or flowers of a flowering plant growing in their lungs." The doctor told him,
"Could it be cured?" He asked, hoping.
The nurse then thought for it a moment, "It could be cured by surgical removal. But if the infection is removed, it seems like their romantic feelings are taken away too." The nurse told him, "I think there is another way." The nurse said and looked at the doctor,
"The other way is to return the feeling, but it has to be the real romantic feeling. A strong friendship will not cure it either way." The doctor explained,
"I see." He said crossing his arms, "And if not returned or removed surgically?"
"The victim will just die-suffocate from the flowers blooming in her lungs." The nurse said sadly.
"Okay, thank you." He said then walked away,

"Good morning Eiko-chan!" Whispered Haru, taking a seat beside Eiko, "Today is a wonderful day isn't it?"
Eiko smiled at him, "It is really, with the cherry blossoms falling-" she said agreeing with Haru.
Haru smiled at her, "Yes it is." He whispers, "It is for my last day." He said, a stray tear falling down, clutching the handful of sunflower that is in his pocket.꧁ 𝙀𝙣𝙙 ꧂
