Keefe's POV
Keefe couldn't take it anymore, his heart clenched with the weight of Sophie's emotion.
He timidly gave a small knock at the door, waited a second or two, then pushed it open.
Sophie's POV
She startled a bit as a short knock interrupted her mid- cry.
Her heart speed up, and she quickly tried to wipe away her tears.
Half hoping it was Keefe, and half hoping it wasn't.
Keefe's Pov
Keefe could sense Sophie's apprehension as he pushed open the door. And with one look at her face he could tell she had been crying.
She looked so small curled up on her bed. She was clutching Ella, her hair was pushed away from her face, which was the opposite of what he would have expected, since whenever she was nervous or embarrassed she tended to hide behind it.
She looked so pretty, even when she was sad, he didn't know that was possible.
He watched as she shifted her gaze downwards, and angled her body away from his. A soft sniffle escaped, and her body trembled.
He'd never seen her so vulnerable, and it made his heart hurt. Not only because he could feel what she was, but because he was the one who had caused it.
"Sophie-" He started. And was all he was able to get out, because that's all it took for her to start crying again.
He immediately rushed over, and pulled her into his lap. She nestled closer, burying her head in the crook of his shoulder. Their bodies seemed to mold together, fitting perfectly like two puzzle pieces. He rubbed small circles on the small of her back. Eventually her sobs, receded into the occasional tiny hiccup.
As they sat there together, Keefe glanced down at Sophie, with a faint smile on his lips.
How was it possible for someone to look so beautiful all the time?
At that moment, Sophie stared up at him, meeting his gaze. Their minds connecting easily.
Keefe..
He heard her transmit.
Keefe.. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have forced myself on you like that, I just...I don't know what came over me.
He noticed her let out a tiny sigh, and a small blush crept up her cheeks.
Sophie..
He thought back.
You are the most important person in the world to me, if you're sad, I'm sad, if there's a problem let me help, if you need advice I'm right here. No matter how many times I run away, I always come back for you. Every stupid decision I've ever made has been to protect you.
If I did something wrong please tell me so I can fix it. No matter what happens I'll always be by your side because I lov-
His thoughts scrambled
Because I care about you Sophie.
Because I get excited to see you whenever we go to school. Because you talk me out of a lot of stupid stuff. Because you cheer me up when I'm down. Because you always seem to believe in me, even when no one else does, even when I don't myself.
You mean the absolute world to me, and you have no idea how long I've waited to say that.
All I want is for you to be happy, whether it's with, or without me. Sophie you make my life worth living. If it weren't for you, who knows maybe I'd still be with the Neverseen, or maybe I wouldn't even be here.
I don't understand what went wrong, please talk to me..
Sophie's POV
Sophie's mind reeled.
Was all of this true..? Was this all just a big miss-understanding? Was he really talking about her??
"Keefe...I-"
"I don't know what to say" She whispered. "Do you really mean all that?"
"Yes, all of that and more" He said back in a hoarse voice. "Of course, I meant every single word."
Sophie leaned back a little, to get a better look at his face. His eyes had a warm intensity to them, that she found she couldn't break away from. It was as if an invisible magnetic force was pulling her to him.
She wanted him, all of him. Every soft, hard, damaged, goofy, lovable part of him. She felt it with every single cell in her body.
She transmitted,
I love you too.
As she took in his surprised expression, a smile formed at her lips. And she glanced down, hoping it wasn't too soon for her to say it. But in a couple of heartbeats, she felt his finger tilt her chin up to look at him.
And with one look at his face, his ice blue eyes that countered her warm brown ones, drew her in, until their foreheads were touching, their lips a mere 2 centimetres from each others.
Sophie swallowed, nervous, the butterflies in her stomach erupting, with pleasure.
She stared at his lips, and couldn't take it a second more.
Suddenly their lips were together, and Sophie marveled at how familiar yet new they were to her. Keefe leaned back into the bed, Sophie's kiss following. She was on top of him, her hands in The Hair.
Both their eyes were closed, and all she could feel was his lips on hers, his hands on her, his body one with hers. It felt so right, like they had done this before. They could read each other, each one's wants. And Sophie felt an overflowing sense of love for this boy. Who always made her laugh, and who was so loyal, at times to a fault.
They broke apart, they could hear each other breathing, and Sophie was still so captivated by his eyes. He made her feel seen. She lowered her head, resting it on his chest. Their heartbeats matched each others, in sync.
Keefe's POV
Keefe felt the happiest he'd been in the past few months. Here he was in Sophie's room with her cuddled up close to him. He kept replaying over and over in his mind what had just happened.
She said 'I love you too.' He thought.
His heart soared, and he felt so much love for this girl who was so special, and not only because she was constantly saving the world.
He turned to talk to her, but she must've been so emotionally worn out she'd drifted off.
He was careful so slide out from under her, and pulled up the covers around her. He rummaged around, looking for a pencil and paper.
When he found them, he wrote a quick note, saying she had fallen asleep, and that if she woke up when the party was still going he would be downstairs.
He clapped the shades closed, and gave Iggy a quick pat. He leaned over, adjusted the blankets, and kissed her forehead.
He walked out with the biggest grin on his face. He was so lucky.
