[This first part is just retelling what happened but cleaner; part 2 is what happened after :p  ALSO SORRY THAT I TOOK SO LONG TO POST THIS I'M JUST VERY FUCKING LAZY LMAO- anyway, enjoy!]

A black and formless shadow swished through the cold mountains of despair, curious and awed by all he could see. His shadowy form swayed from side to side, watching the vultures fly around overhead. He could not feel the stinging cold, as he was indeed a shadow. He threw himself from mountain to mountain, exploring every inch, and eventually reaching the mountain closest to the dark and eerie forest known as the forest of night. He narrowed his glowing eyes as something caught his eyes. A tan trenchcoat flapped on a faraway tree branch.

"...?" he wordlessly wondered, hopping a little closer.
The coat, was snagged on a thick branch of a dead tree. It was quite a strange sight... for it was only that particular tree that was dead. All the other trees surrounding it were healthy, even bearing fruit and flowers. The only other thing dead apart from the tree was a large circular patch of grass next to the tree. The curious shadow flung itself to the tree to look at the trenchcoat. As he tried to remove the coat from the branch, a thumping noise began to come from under the dead patch of grass. The tan coat slowly continued flapping in the silent wind.
The little swirling shadowy void continued staring at the trenchcoat on the branch, just watching it move. But as the thumping from the ground got louder, the wind quickly began dying. The coat quickly stopped moving, and the shadow creature attempted to grab it. Too busy struggling to get it unhooked from the branch, he failed to notice that the area of dead nature began to expand. He threw himself against the tree, until the peculiar coat finally fell onto his limbless figure. He flinched as a sudden groan came from the ground. the dead grass began to glow a dark and menacing red, alarming the shadow.

The earth below him split open, and he quickly hid behind the dead tree. A loud laugh erupted from the broken patch of land. It wasn't a deep, intimidating laugh, but actually more of a young and chaotic giggle. The black figure watched as a 17 year old boy with horns crawled out of the hole, laughing in victory. Right behind him, a blue, ghostly figure flew out and coiled itself around the boy.

The boy wore a light gray button up shirt with black trousers and fashionable dress shoes. His hair was black and neatly combed, though a few hairs were out of place. His eyes were a bright and unsettling blood red, which matched with his small and pointy horns. The blue creature wrapped around him was tall and terrifying, with a singular eye with a large red X where its pupil should be. It had no arms or legs, but nonetheless scary. Its large and odd eye looked around wildly, taking in its surroundings.
"!!???" The black shadow hummed in confusion.

The boy (was it really even a boy at all??) stretched and grinned widely. He bent down in an unnatural way and small, leathery red wings sprouted from his back. A thin, devil-like tail the same color as his wings grew from his lower back, swishing back and forth wildly in excitement. The blue slug-looking ghost shook itself and bright red and white X's appeared on certain areas of its body.
"Well well, Drennie, looks like we finally made it-" spoke the boy. His voice echoed slightly through the forest creepily. It sent shivers down the shadow's nonexistent spine. "----- - --." The one-eyed creature hissed into the boy's ear, looking at the dead tree behind them. The boy turned around and made eye contact with the shadow, who still had the tan coat on him.
"???" it said, confused. The strange boy smiled and walked closer, taking long and smooth strides.
"Hello. My name is Lucas Alaister, son of king of hell, Crowley Alaister. This here is Drenlox, my demon spirit buddy." he signaled to the scary blue creature, then eyed befuddled shadow. "You're not a human, are you? You certainly don't look like one. No matter, what's your name dark fellow?" he questioned. The shadow tilted his figure, unsure by what Lucas meant.
'n..na..me?'  he cooed in wonder.
"This dimension does use names, correct?" Lucas inquired, raising a perfectly groomed brow.
The shadow swayed for a moment, unsure.
"name?¿‽ i don't...have one..."  he finally replied. Lucas raised both eyebrows, tilting his head.
No name huh? Well..." He thought for a second. "Artemis it is, then. A pleasure to make your acquaintance."

The black shadow straightened, surprised by Lucas' sudden name-giving. But he didn't complain. It was quite nice to have a name! As a thanks, he shook himself and threw the trenchcoat he had been holding onto Drenlox. The creature hissed and shook violently, trying to get the coat off. Lucas rolled his eyes and took it off of him.

"Honestly Dren, you're such a baby. It's just a coat, dumbass." he scolded, examining the coat. It was a little oversized, probably a man's, but still nonetheless fashionable. "Hmmm, this would rather look good on me, don't you think?" Lucas mused. Despite Drenlox's shake of disapproval, he put it on. He straightened it out and smirked at Artemis, gleeful.
"I think this looks stunning on me, Artemis."

Artemis happily bopped, glad his new companion had enjoyed the mysterious coat. Drenlox however, was not pleased. He hissed into Lucas' ear once more. The demon grabbed him by what would be his neck, glaring at him.

"No you big blue buffoon! Terminate our new companion and i'll send you right back to hell
 with father! Behave yourself o
i'll use my extraordinary pissing skills to urinate on your pathetic singular eyeball!" He threatened. Drenlox reluctantly dipped his head and continued to stare at Artemis, unpleased by his friendliness. Artemis, being only a few feet away, heard what they were squabbling about and quickly drifted away behind a tree again. Lucas ran his hand through his hair and sighed in annoyance, walking over to the tree.
"You'll have to excuse him, he means well, he's just trying to protect me. But don't you worry dear Artemis, he won't hurt you."

Artemis slowly nodded and came out from behind the tree again. Lucas spun around, looking at the mysterious looking trees.
"Now, tell me Artemis, " He began, a big, somewhat creepy smile on his face.
"Where are we?"
Artemis just shook his head and gazed into the darkness of the forest.
"forest... don't... k..know... lost..."
"Well then.. looks like we'll have to find out ourselves!" The peculiar demon concluded, clapping his hands together. Artemis flinched at the sudden clap but remained exuberant.

"-- -  ---- -." Drenlox rattled. Lucas nodded in agreement and turned back to Artemis.
"Excellent idea Dren, let us head north. We're bound to come across something interesting, right? Come along now Artemis!"
Artemis hesitated for a moment, but excitement quickly replaced his uncertainty and the queer shadow followed Lucas and Drenlox deeper into the forest happily. Lucas would never admit it to himself, but he too was enjoying this new company. No one needs to know though. It's not a big deal.
