I despise the cold weather.
I learned that quickly after i emerged from hell. I hadn't been on earth for so long, and it was probably during the warmer weather anyways. Then again i was only a youngling then.. all the small ones who had gone on that trip probably thought it was always warm in this place.
"How wrong we were..." I mumbled bitterly as i tightened my beautiful tan trenchcoat around me. I would instinctively light a fire around me to keep myself warm, but i did not want to further burn the tree. This marvelous, marvelous tree. Created by an obnoxious toddler, yes, but nonetheless extravagant. Its black, charred bark makes the perfect home, for me and... others, indeed.

Speaking of others.. Laurens was wriggling in his sleep again. His sharp twists rattled the scorched and naked branches of the tree, rocking me from my position at the thick naked branch at the top of the tree. This was not the first time the orange-haired boy had nightmares whilst I was awake, it was quite common, really. At first i found it disturbing and annoying, as it would interrupt my own beauty sleep, but now... it's just pitiful, really. I can't quite figure out what he dreams of, but whatever it is plagues his subconscious every time he closes his eyes. Maybe i should awake him...
No, he'd just brush me away and tell me to piss off as always. I don't understand why he just won't spit out what's bothering him! Whatever, it's not like i even care. I don't care about anything, or anybody.
"He can enjoy his bloody nightmares. I don't give a flying fuck." I told myself in a quick and exasperated whisper. Drenlox heard me of course, as he was standing guard only a yard or two away. He slithered over to me, tilting his head in query. I sighed inwardly and carefully moved closer to him.

"—- -?" The blue ghost blinked.
I shook my head and leaned back on the trunk of the black tree.
"No, no threats, just dealing with the inconveniences of earth, i guess."
I frowned as Drenlox began to narrow his eye.
"No no, it has nothing to do with.. that. Shut up." I hissed quickly, turning away from him.

I drew my knees up to my chest and looked down to where the disturbed Ca-LAURENS was still struggling in his sleep. I glared up at the cloudy black sky before slipping off one of my shoes and dropping it directly on top of the conflicted dreamer, making him jump out of his nightmare. I watched as he instinctively grabbed his knife and looked around wildly, stabbing around him at nothing before finally looking up. I relaxed my posture at the speed of light and blinked down at him, just staring.

"What was THAT for?" the funky carrot haired doof demanded.
"What was what for? I don't know what you're talking about." I sneered, flipping him off before rolling away from his line of sight.
"Prick.." I heard him mutter from the base of the tree, followed by the sound of shifting and eventually, soft snoring.

Only then did I turn back to look at him. I quickly shook my head and flipped off the boy before crossing my arms and turning away again. I'd chuck my other shoe at him if i wasn't so damn cold. Friends are for losers anyway. I blew into my hands and rubbing them, looked up at the big yellow moon. I don't think i've even fully acknowledged it until now. It shines brightly among the many other twinkling lights in the black sky. I sat against the tree and stared at them for a while, trying to count them but quickly coming to the realization that it was impossible. Still, I watched them, shimmering and shining, wondering what it would be like to hold one in my hands.

I looked down at them. My hands. My fingernails are getting a bit long. and my fingers are slightly covered in grime from the burnt tree. After wiping them on my pants and then rubbing them together again and put them in my pockets. I looked back up at the peculiar small orbs. I studied them from where i was, near the top of the blackened tree. I tried counting them one more time, letting go of the troubles in my mind for a few moments. Laurens was asleep, Aster was probably asleep, and i sent Drenlox away a few minutes ago. It was just me, the moon, and the small white dots now. Heaven or Hell did not matter. The world drifted away, and it was only me, the moon, and the dots. There was just something about them. It was like they were drawing me in, pulling my soul forward...

A crow croaked nearby and i was jerked out of my moment of bliss, and almost out of the tree. I scoffed and readjusted, pulling myself together quickly. The moon and the shiny dots meant nothing to me. They were just lights. big deal. I don't even have a soul. This is bullshit! I sent the annoying crow crashing hard into a tree with an easy flick of the wrist, pissed.

The orange haired clump moved from the base of the tree, shaking me and the other branches only in the very slightest. I inhaled slowly. When i exhaled, i could see my breath in front of me. Right. Cold.
l tightened my coat around me again and buried my face deeply in it, squeezing my eyes shut. Maybe it was the moon that was making the air cold.
"Stupid moon." I muttered. Stupid Laurens. Stupid crow. Stupid tree.

"Stupid lights."
