Magic's POV:
Magic was standing in the training circle with her mentor, Splash. She shook her long black hair out of her eyes and looked up at him. Splash's wiry blond hair seemed to shimmer in the sunlight. He tossed Magic a wooden plank.
"I'm going to shoot a fireball at you. It's really small, so don't worry too much about getting hit. The worst burn you could get would probably just affect your clothes."
Splash stuck out his hand and shot a fireball. Magic put up the plank, and the fireball hit it, burning a small hole in it.
"Good job!" Splash said. He picked up another plank. "Now shoot a small ice crystal at me."
Magic held out her hand, closed her eyes, and thought of a snowflake. Suddenly, an ice crystal shot at Splash. It hit the plank, which froze where the crystal made contact.
"Great!" Splash said. "Now we should work on-"
He was interrupted by a loud noise. Someone was sounding the alarm. The alarm was a metal cup tied by vines to a tree branch. If someone saw anything suspicious, like someone they didn't know, they could throw something, like stones or acorns, into the cup.
"Let's go! Back to camp!" Splash commanded. He ran in the direction of the alarm, Magic hard on his heels.
They arrived to see their leader, Moss, standing on a ledge. He was speaking.
"Something has happened," he said. "Lark said he saw smoke coming from the volcano in the distance."
"What? But the volcano hasn't erupted in a long time!" Magic murmured.
"Lark thinks that someone from the evil dimension got here," Moss continued.
"What?" someone exclaimed. "That's not possible! The dimensions aren't close enough!"
"They could have gotten closer, Pine," Moss said.
"But-" Pine started.
Splash looked at Magic. "Didn't you have a dream about the volcano erupting?" he asked.
Magic nodded. "Do you think...?"
"Maybe," Splash said. "You should tell them."
Magic shook her head. "They won't believe me. Or they'll be upset. Usually only the healers have those dreams. Moss hasn't even had that many prophetic dreams!"
Splash nodded. "It's your decision. But I really think you should tell."
Magic sighed softly. It was probably nothing, anyway...wasn't it?
That night, Magic couldn't sleep. She kept drifting off, then jerking awake. She rolled over, then sighed. She had to take a walk. She got up and wandered out of her house, which was a large tree stump. As she walked past the giant boulder-Moss's house-she looked at it. Then, she walked towards it and looked inside. Moss was sleeping, so she withdrew. She turned to leave.
"Magic?" Moss called softly. Magic jumped, startled, then turned around and walked in.
"What are you doing here?" he asked.
Magic took a deep breath. "I have something to tell you," she began.
