With fearful thoughts about my dream, I pushed the front door to my house open cautiously, feeling the white plastic slide across my fingertips. My eyes searched the dark entrance for anything unusual but to my relief, I found nothing. "You're just paranoid Ceece... Everything. Is. Fine." I whispered to myself as I took a small step inside.
I shuffled through the darkness slowly feeling for the light switch my foot moved something, knocking it over harshly. I breathed in so sharply that I almost choked on my own breath. Slamming my hand against the wall in the right place, the small room was washed with bright light. As I caught my breath, I let out a small sigh of relief when I discovered that it was merely the cowboy boots that I had left strewn about on the black granite tiles when I left for tour 3 long months ago. I sneered to myself at the thought of the commonly known saying, "There's no place like home" whatever... I'd rather be on stage right now.
All my attention was captured by my growling stomach that reminded me that I hadn't eaten since last night. Sliding the many bags of luggage off my shoulder's, I pulled off my biker boots and threw them across the smooth tiles to accompany the others.
I strolled on into the kitchen in search for any means of food, feeling a little less on edge now that I was distracted. I raided the cupboards, the fridge, the freezer and even the oven, making a lot of unnecessary noise. Just letting everyone know I'm home... I guess?
My face scrunched in hunger as I searched and searched but only found a bag of frozen peas. Eww. I don't even like peas... Why did I have these?... Damn Maa, trying to make me eat healthy.
I slumped my back against the uncomfortable kitchen units with a sigh as my nose seemed to catch onto a stomach rumbling scent. I was either so hungry that I was going delusional, or I left the door open when the burger van was driving past. To my surprise, I found a home baked Lasagne left on my dining room table with an unusual looking note left beside it. Quickly, before touching anything, I looked around curiously wondering why my life had to be so weird and confusing.
When I was certain that it was safe, I picked up the paper, opening it up to find the familiar swirly writing that was plastered onto it neatly.
To my lovely Christian,
I noticed you emptied your cupboards before tour when I came in to pick up some paperwork that I left behind a long time ago. I figured you'd forget so I baked you this and left it for you on my way to work, enjoy sweetie!
Love you! Sophia xxx
I slipped onto one of the many chairs with my eyes glued firmly to the paper, a smile spreading across my face gradually each time I read it. I'm surprised I didn't strain the muscles in my cheek... That's how much I smiled! This is one of the many reasons I loved Sophia... She was forever thinking about the people around her and doing little gestures to make people happy. It made me the happiest guy in the world.
Hurriedly, I scrambled back through the kitchen the get a fork with hunger pouring from my eyes. I was stopped right in my tracks when the phone started ringing loudly, cutting through the air. It went on and on, no matter how much I tried to ignore it.
With my mouth watering furiously, I left everything behind to pick up the never ending call.
"Hello?" I asked, holding the phone against my ear tightly.
"Mr. Mora?" came a familiar voice that left me in mere curiosity.
"Uh-huh?" I mumbled down the receiver, hoping it wasn't some salesman trying to sell me a pair of underwear or something... My pug ran around my feet happily, greeting me for the first time since I had arrived home, making it a challenge to walk without full concentration.
"Christian, Am I right?" the woman pushed for confirmation quickly.
"That's me." I answered uncertainly, as if I even needed to convince myself. Carefully, I seated myself on the arm of my black leather couch, "It's actually Coma now... Christian Coma" I corrected her, becoming reasonably impatient. "So, who is this anyway?" I questioned as a silence fell amongst us and the information given became scarce.
After another short silence except for the shuffling of many papers the woman finally answered me in a tone that made me feel like I should know who it was, "This is the Los Angeles adoption centre... Mr... Uhh? Coma?" she informed me, "We have your daughter here" she explained as I sat completely frozen to the spot. Quickly, I rephrased over everything that just happened, although, I couldn't quite comprehend parts of it.... I knew exactly what was going on. It was crystal clear.
"Sammi?" I sussed, trying to stifle out a chuckle to prove that I didn't fall for it at all, "Biersack put you up to this... Didn't he?" I grimaced as I star quickly at the unknown number that lit up brightly on the screen of my iPhone.
"I'm sorry... Mr. Coma? Is everything okay?" the woman queried, with a touch of confusion to her voice.
Once again, my mouth started watering uncomfortably as I tried so hard to gulp it down. My mind was slowly sinking into insanity as I blinked away the tears that wanted out. "I-I don't have a child" I admitted although it was harder convincing myself than somebody else.
"Your name is on the birth certificate" she stated as I heard another bout of shuffling of papers down the receiver, "9 Pine Avenue,That's your address, right?" she pushed me for confirmation in her sophisticated voice.
My heart sunk as she read out my details, "Yep, that's me alright" I sighed as I sank down into the soft leather trying to catch my breath that had been suddenly stolen by the panic I was experiencing, "Wh-Who's the mom?" I stuttered, as I gripped onto the soft leather, letting my body sink further into it.
"Tara Lee" She answered sending my mind into the deepest depths of confusion I had ever been in.
"Tara Lee?..." I imitated her as I searched through my frazzled mind thoroughly over the many parties I had attended, wishing for once I hadn't been born as such a party animal... It could be anyone.... "I've never met a girl called Tara as far as I can remember..." I admitted, becoming more dazed by the second.
"Enough of the discussion" the woman snapped at me impatiently, "Are you going to pick her up or not?" she questioned.
I didn't have time to think about this, it was literally do or die. "Yeah sure" I mumbled as I began pulling my boots on with one hand.
"Okay come straight over to the adoption centre on Melrose Avenue" she informed me, sounding more satisfied than ever as she hung up, letting the lazy sound of the vacant tone drone on and on.
I scrambled to my feet slowly, my body felt so heavy, so tired, but I needed to settle this whether it was just a petty band joke. Paranoia is a horrible thing and it was only now that I regretted pulling that prank earlier, now matter how funny it seemed at the time.
Reluctantly, I slid on my tight leather jacket, pulling the warm, comfortable material around my trembling torso. I clenched tightly onto my iPhone as I headed for the door, typing in a quick text to Andy.
CC~ This is a good prank Andy... You've got me good.
Ignoring every unconfident thought in my mind, I locked my door and proceeded to let myself into my cherry red mustang. Before you ask... Of course it had to be cherry red... Cherries are the best thing that happened to this world.
I sank into the comfy drivers seat, my arms collapsed lifelessly as I tried so hard to turn the keys. Carefully, I let down my window, allowing the bitter night breeze to flood into the car. Suddenly, my phone vibrated on my leg as I unlocked it to view the text. It was from Andy and it made me suffocate on my own breath again....
Andy~ What prank? I'm at Applebee's doing karaoke, get your butt over here dude!
