"Yeah fine I'll just meet you there. Whatever. Yeah, Bye." I practically hang up on my mom and sigh as I put my head in my hands.
It's been a week and 3 days since my parents shoved the idea of moving down my throat, as if there was even a possibility we might stay. I've learned it's better not to fight my parents on some things, because they always end up getting their way, and since they aren't around much I don't get many orders anyways. Of course, when they do come home and tell me to do something, it had to be something as big as moving almost a thousand miles away from everything I've ever known.
Being the exact Wednesday we are supposed to move, most of our stuff is gone and the house echos like an empty museum. My parents decided to fly down on Monday to finalize the new interior design of the house and other minor last-minute details. Nadine and I had a flight today at 3 in the afternoon and it was almost noon now, meaning we had to leave in about an hour or so, just to be safe. My lovely mother had called to tell me neither her or my father would have the decency to pick us up from the airport and a car would meet us when we landed in North Carolina.
I had already had long sad goodbyes to anyone of meaning here in Chicago which consisted of my best friends Monica and Katie and my immediate Aunts, Uncles and Grandparents. Few tears were shed but I was truley going to miss the comfort of everyone here.
After checking and rechecking a small suitcase and carry-on off the remainder of my things from this house, it was finally time to leave. I descended the grand staircase and breathed out a sigh. Silence hung between Nadine and I as we both got into the black car that was driving us to the airport. As we drove away and down the long driveway and the security gates locked shut behind us, I popped in my headphones hoping to soak up the music and forget about how my life had fallen apart in a week and 3 days.

After we landed in New Hanover County Airport, we took an hour and a half drive to the new house. From what Nadine was telling me it was even more extravagant than our old one. Who the hell upgrades from a million dollar mansion when only 2 people practically are living there: my parents that's who.
The driver pulled up to the white gates at the ed of a long driveway and pushed the intercom button to buzz us in.
"Miss Taryn Smith and Ms Nadine Clark have arrived from the airport." Our driver spoke in a deep smokers voice.
The gates opened right away and we drove up the stone paved driveway, which led to a house on a hill. Our home could have been mistaken for a palace with the intricate flowers and landscaping up the hill, all leading to a castle of a house. 4 tall pillars stood in the center of the circle drive, holding up the tall white overhang covering the largely lavish front porch. large windows covered most of the outside, and old style touches with grey brick and pointed rooftops.
The driver, who's name I learned to be Chase, helped us bring our bags to the front door. As I rang the doorbell I tried to imagine this unfamiliar place as my home. Seconds later, the door was opened by a middle aged man with slightly greying hair dressed as a butler.
"Good afternoon Misses, let me take your bags up to your residence's for you. How was your flight?" The strange man spoke, taking our bags, in a soft tone.
"Um, it was fine thanks." I said questioning. Nadine just nodded politely.
"Your mother and father will not be home until dinner I regret." The man whose name I still did not know said, "I am Henry, formally your house manager. But you will know me as the butler." as if he read my mind he introduced himself.
I nodded as he went on. "As I said I will have this luggage taken to your rooms. If you follow me I can take you there now."
As I followed Henry up the stairs I wondered why my parents felt the need now for a butler. We already had Nadine, as if we needed someone else in our house to help us do things we could easily do on our own like normal people.
After following Henry up one of the sides of the large double sided grand staircase in the foyer, we took a right down a long, lightly lit hall. he stopped at the first door of 2 and opened it to reveal a plain white, large room. I recognized my DVD collection under the large flat screen first as I entered the enormous room that I assumed to be mine.
"Your parents had the room unpacked and arranged," Henry said from behind me, now setting down my luggage at the foot of the bed. "If anything is not to your liking Miss Taryn, please let me know. We left some personal things on the bed for you to decide placement."
"It's just Taryn," I spoke slightly annoyed, "And thank you, but I think I can manage."
Henry nodded and quickly left quietly shutting the door behind him, to show Nadine to her room I assume. I didn't mean to be rude to him, I mean I barely know him! But simply snapping at him was my way of taking out my usual annoyance at my parents.
Turning around I looked at the open cardboard moving box on the plain white duvet covering the king sized bed. Inside I found a large stack of pictures I had taken back home, some nick-knacks such as key chains and lanyards and chargers for my phone, computer and other electronics.
I quickly got to work attaching the pictures to the wall with my closet and bathroom both attached, farthest from the door. After nearly 2 hours, I had covered the entire wall with about 10 pictures to spare, considering it was a fairly large wall I was surprised I even had enough. Taking a step back to admire my work I jumped and hit my hip on the bed frame when a voice boomed through the room.
"Dinner is ready Miss Taryn." It simply spoke.
"Shit!" I screamed at the same time, the voice nearly scaring the wits out of me and began rubbing my hip from the pain, immediately knowing it was going to bruise.
Who the hell puts a intercom in their teenage daughters room, doesn't tell her, and forgets to turn the volume on the speaker down. My parents of course. I stuck my phone in the large pocket in my Victoria's Secret sweatpants I had changed into half-way through hanging up pictures. After making my way downstairs and between the two large staircases and making a left I found the kitchen and walked through the overdone, grade-A appliances and discovered the dining room.
My parents sat at both heads of the maghogany table much too large for 3 people.
"Hello honey," "Good evening sweetheart." My parents said.
"Hey," I said sitting down at the 3rd side between them, but I was still at least 5 feet in distance from each of them.
We talked about our days and I learned my parents had been out ordering workout equiptment for the home gym in the basement among other trivial things for the new house.
The Dinner was a full 5-course meal complete with a an appetizer, soup, salad, meat, and desert cooked to order as if we were in a 5 star restaurant. Of course, I was scolded for wearing sweats to dinner, by my mother who wore a full face of makeup with a cocktail dress and heels.
After dinner I retreated to my room, not ready for school which I would have to start attending immediately tomorrow since I had missed the entire week at my old school preparing for the move. I washed my face in the bathroom attached to my room, drew the curtains covering the floor to ceiling windows behind my flat screen and hopped into bed, praying tomorrow wouldn't come.
