Chapter 2-After talking with Baaron for a while, she discovered that the crystal rat was kind of an outcast from almost everyone. Yet he wasn't the only one. He was in a group of other outcasts, and was trying to stop the war as well, because they had no idea when the chosen one, Allie, would come.
She wondered how long they were waiting for her, how long the war had gone on, how long the creatures had had to endure all of the fighting. How were they able to endure all of this? Especially the children... Were there even children? Allie still didn't know how that worked for crystal creatures, she knew they bursted from rocks and all, but she didn't know if they were really considered children. She would have to ask Baaron about that later...
After a while of sitting and thinking, suddenly the "lights" went out. Allie leapt to her feet in panic. Her heart started to race and her ADHD made her hands twitch violently, as if she didn't just take some medicine for it that night before bed.
She instinctively balled up her fists, as she had done many times whenever someone threatened or tried to hurt her.
"Guess it's already time for bed. Seems early tonight, but that might've just been 'cause of all the stuff goin' on today." Baaron replied as if he had read her thoughts, or seen her face, which was almost impossible in this pitch black darkness.
Bed? Was that why the lights went out? Was that normal for everyone who lived down here?
"But where are we supposed to sleep though? I'd rather not sleep on the floor if that's what you're implying." Allie asked quizzingly. And it was true, she did not like sleeping on the floor. Especially if it was now concrete.
"Oh of course not on the floor! That would be more uncomfortable than being put in the front line in the army! Follow me." Baaron started padding back the way Allie had come, and after a while, they ended up following a different path, where the walls were made of a rough cobblestone and were covered in moss and vines with purple and yellow flowers growing on them, as if this place was made for Baaron, but had not been tended to for a very long time.
Baaron walked very carefully and nimbly, as if he had walked through this path a million times. Allie, however, tripped over vines and loose rocks left and right. The corridor was very long and straight, and was overcome with plants so it looked almost like a jungle. The thick vines swirled and tangled with one another, so it looked like the walls were made of vines. Rocks were scattered all over the floor of the corridor, making it almost impossible to not trip over them. Little orbs filled with what looked like fireflies, hung from the ceiling, the orbs were all different colors, and they reminded Allie of lanterns.
"Um... Where are we going?" Allie finally asked after a while. She didn't really like the silence much. It made her feel uncomfortable, so she usually had to speak up so she didn't have to wait for the other person to speak.
"You'll see!" Baaron grinned. "Besides, it's better as a surprise, and we're almost there!" He seemed genuinely excited for what he was about to show her. And really excited to get there. Which she thought was at least a good sign. Hopefully...
After what seemed like hours they had walked, out of the blue, "We're here!", came from Baaron's mouth. Allie had never been more glad to hear those words. Her feet ached and her head started to hurt from exhaustion. "Look." Baaron said excitedly.
Allie strained to see through the darkness beyond the giant rat. In the shadows she saw a silhouette of large things that looked like huts, and there were giant colorful boulders, all different colors than Baaron. There were various shapes and sizes. As if they weren't the same species. In one corner, tucked away from the others, were other colored rocks. One was a deep purple and and a bright orange, another looked like it was tie-dyed purple and green. And the others all only had one thing in common. One of their colors was black. Allie didn't know if those ones were even normal to the crystals. All of the other colors seemed to be right next to each other on the color wheel. Except for Baaron's and the other "hidden" rocks.
