Jessica hated school and today was no different. She of course was late. She ran down the hallways. Her eyes searching for her homeroom. Room 101, room 103, room 105.... she skids to a stop as she reached room 107. Jessica banged open the door hoping class hadn't started. Unfortunately, she was never that lucky. Everyone turned to stare at her. Jessica's face began to heat up as she felt the blush creep across her face. The teacher, Ms. Clemmons glared at her from the front of the room. She walked with her head down towards her seat at the back of the classroom. Jessica slinked into her chair and held her breath, praying that Ms. Clemmons wouldn't scold her. Ms. Clemmons stared at Jessica as if daring her to make a single sound. Eventually, Ms. Clemmons looked away and continued reading The Jungle by Upton Sinclair aloud to the class. Jessica pulled out her book so she could read along but found her bag was no longer underneath her seat. She looked around puzzled. Jessica began to panic as she searched every inch of the floor.

"Pssh," someone whispered.

Jessica looked around. She tried to make out who had made the noise.

"Pssh."

Jessica grew agitated. Suddenly she felt someone poke her from behind. Jessica turned around wildly. Behind her, she found a small girl with wavy golden brown locks that cascaded down her shoulders. The girl had intelligent green eyes that looked as if they were made of two large emeralds. Her hair framed her square face perfectly making the elegant angles of her face stand out in comparison. She had small pouty lips that were a soft pink. Jessica was getting off-topic and so returned to her annoyed expression.

"What!" Jessica whispered.

"My name is Rylee," the green-eyed girl replied.

Jessica stared at her dumbfounded. Why was this small obnoxious girl even talking to her? Nobody talked to her. Jessica has been alone since the beginning of her horrific school year at Central Valley.

"And your name is..." Rylee continued realizing Jessica wasn't continuing the conversation.

"Jessica"

"Nice name," Rylee replied casually.

Jessica again began to ponder why Rylee was talking to her.

"Did you need something?" Jessica asked cautiously.

"Well, you looked like you needed some help."

"Help?"

"Yeah...like you were missing something" Rylee replied as her smirk grew.

Jessica was flabbergasted. How did Rylee know that she was missing something? Jessica looked more closely at the odd girl. She then noticed her bag sitting right in Rylee's lap.

"Give it back!" Jessica whispered harshly.

Rylee snickered as she held the bag closer to her chest.

"Please!"

"Nope," Rylee replied, popping the 'P', "...unless you sit next to me during lunch this afternoon?"

Jessica frantically thought of any way she could possibly get out of this.

"Fine! Just give me my bag!" Jessica relented.

Rylee grinned as she handed Jessica her bag.
