Among Us Retelling

Chapter 1

Sapphire woke up with her head buzzing. She felt as if she had just been through a bar fight and subsequent hangover. The hollow cryostasis tube she was in slid open. She slowly propped herself up on her elbows and rested her feet on the floor. She had not expected the long trip to the new human settlement, Mira, to take such a short time. It felt as if she just went to sleep. In a daze she got up and went to a nearby locker to get a warming suit. The suit would help warm her up and help her body recover from the long-frozen sleep. She stumbled over to a nearby computer panel after getting dressed. The screen showed that there were 7 other people who had waken up. It also told her that they were only halfway to Mira and that she had no business being awake. Still slightly dazed, she stumbled out of the cryostasis bay leaving behind several people sleeping in their tubes. Once she left the cryo bay, heavy blast doors came down and sealed behind her. She started walking down a corridor heading to the ship's main cafeteria. The ship was designed to be a temporary home when they reached Mira, so it was equipped with basic needs. On the way to the cafeteria she passed by a communications bay, she heard some noises coming from inside. She stood at the door and warily peeked inside. A man was standing inside fiddling with some dials and knobs on the ship's communications grid. As she watched, he was disconnecting and connecting wires and one of them sparked suddenly. He gave a gasp and withdrew his hand.

'You ok?' said Sapphire from the door. The man turned around.

'Yeah I'm fine thanks for asking,' he replied. 'You woke up too?'

'Yeah. What are you doing?' Sapphire asked.

'Just fixing this panel. Some of the wiring got dislodged,' he replied. 'The name's Sage by the way. If you come with me, I can bring you to where the others are.'

Sapphire nodded and they both started walking to the cafeteria. The cafeteria was surprisingly crowded and loud.

'Ah Sage you're back. And I see you brought a friend,' said a man sitting at the table.

'Yeah I think she was the eighth person to wake up. We saw that 8 cryo tubes broke right,' said Sage.

'Yeah yeah. My name is Grey,' he introduced himself as he walked over to shake Sapphire's hand.

'Sapphire,' she replied. 'You said there were others?'

'Yeah. Now that you're here we can finally start briefing,' he stood up on the table and clapped his hands. Everyone turned around to look at him.

'All right people the ship needs fixing. We can get through this if we fix all the systems that broke and we can all go right back to sleep,' he said in a commanding voice.

'Who died and made you boss Grey?' asked another lady in an annoyed voice.

'I think the head of the project when they made me pilot Jade. Get with the program,' he replied sarcastically. 'As you can see the final missing person has just walked in. Everyone say hi Sapphire.' Sapphire waved awkwardly at this.

'Everyone else introduce yourselves,' said Grey.

'I'm Jett,' said a man.

'I'm Jade,' said the lady who interrupted Grey.

'I'm Moss,' said another man.

'I'm Ash,' said the last man.

'I'm Scarlett,' said another lady

'I'm Hazel,' said the next lady.

'And I'm Violet,' said the last lady.

'Now that we've got all the pleasantries out of the way, let me update you people on what's going on,' said Grey. 'A few hours ago, the ship was hit by a asteroid. The asteroid knocked out a few critical systems. The ship isn't in danger of exploding immediately so no worries. But I have a list of systems that need fixing for the ship to get back on course. I've written down lists on these tablets.' He got down form the table and started giving each person a tablet. 'If we fix all these we can go right back to sleep. I assume none of you are civilians who can't handle technical jobs?' No one voiced any objections at this.

'Right so let's get started,' Sage.

'Wait just a minute,' said Sapphire. 'You said that only 8 people woke up right?' she asked Sage and Grey.

'Yeah,' they both said in unison.

'So why are there 10 people here?'
