I'm not saying this is either grunge or goth, that's up to debate. Some say it's punk but that's even more debatable
hate when ppl call this "goth". this itself is not goth !! You can be goth and enjoy/ participate in this aesthetic, but having this aesthetic itself is far from that.
Idk much about grunge so I won't touch on that, BUT I know 90's grunge kids did not wear most of this shit lmao 😭😭
This is why I put "modern day" since the CORE of these movements (these are not just aesthetics, but most importantly MOVEMENTS that had a large impact in the music industry and society) are far from this aesthetic.
ANYWAY
similar or clashing aesthetics/ movements are punk, alternative, traditional goth, traditional grunge, and occasionally weirdcore or surrealcore.
This is a very MOODY aesthetic and you can see why lmao
This aesthetic can be problematic in the glorification of smoking, drugs, drinking, and pretty much ANYTHING else rebellious
It can also sometimes glorify mental illness. This was especially prominent in it's early stages on tumblr around 2013-2016. This stuff still exists, but not so much on the surface anymore.
Personally, I don't really like this aesthetic or the culture around it. It's all just very mopey, which I LIKE but this is more mopey in a self centered kind of way ???
Idk maybe it's just because every person I've met that "has" this aesthetic always comes across as full of them selves n kinda mean n problematic idk 😭
