The soreness in my muscles is returning. After my massage earlier, the pain went away, but now it's back and worse than it was this morning. I hobble across the castle to Kyrbast's door. I hope this is quick. I need that nap. I struggle to lift my rubbery limbs to the threshold. Once inside, I plop in the nearest chair and wait for Kyrbast to finish his experiments.
"Started your physical training, I see," Kyrbast says, scaring me awake. "Hungry?"
I yawn and shake my head.
"Well, if you need to eat later, let me know. We'll be working through dinner."
I would scream No! but that would take energy I don't have. Instead, I yawn again, and my eyes water. "Do you have a potion that will wake me up?"
"Yes. Plenty. But you don't want them. Your body has a rhythm, and you need to adjust it naturally. You should be tired. You've been working hard both physically and mentally. Who did you work with so far?"
"Levise and three unicorns, Master Sarpedon, and now you. How are they going to add in the fight training? Or maybe I should have said where."
"I think your question is when. Sarpedon and I are going to alternate days. It was decided that your physical training takes precedence."
I'm so relieved I liven up a little. I don't like the classroom stuff. I don't like the physical stuff either, though. "I guess the good news is that with you guys switching, I'll have time to sleep."
"And study." He meant that as a good thing. It's not. "Did you like my demon?"
"Yes. He was very convincing," I say with another yawn.
"Hmmm," Kyrbast says. "This lesson will be difficult because the main thing you'll learn is how to not fall asleep."
We practice with the wand again. It takes a while for me to focus my thoughts, but I'm definitely getting better. Kyrbast makes a game of it, making me repeat strange poetry while he throws small objects at me. It's fun,/ and I perk up. Soon, I can keep the light lit with almost no effort, which makes it possible for me to throw things back at Kyrbast.
"You mastered that quickly," Kyrbast says, ending our game. "We'll practice that a lot, but it's safe to move on. Would you like to learn something new?"
I nod, excited by my progress now that I'm awake.
This time when he walks to the other side of the room,/ I remember to follow. "All right, then. Most of the time, you won't use the light because you won't need to see the energy. Let's practice moving the unseen energy. Let's knock some stuff over."
Kyrbast lifts his wand. "Now, I picture the energy in my head the same way I pictured the light. I move the energy toward an object and then..." He stops when a beaker on the table across the room falls to the floor and shatters. "Your turn."
