Lily woke up, her room was dark. She didn't have a room mate so that wave of loneliness she felt whenever she opened her eyes was nothing new. The thin blankets left her cold as she laid on the thin mattress provided for her in her thin scrubs that she was given to wear as clothes. Her body ached and she wished she could go home. This was not the ideal place to be.
She sat up and reached for the light on her side of the room. The shelves and tables beside the bed were also nailed to the floor just like the chair out in the sitting area by the front desk. She remembered the first time she was hospitalized and there had been a code because of an angry kid had thrown a few chairs at the nurses.
With the light on Lily decided she felt more lonely and turned it off. After peeing and washing her hands and splashing water on her face, Lily felt no different than how she did when she was asleep. Blank. Her body felt heavy, as if it took too much effort to even move. It was like her head was too big for her body.
A nurse peeped her head into the room. "Your awake, lily." She was new, Lily didn't recognize her. "Because of the incident earlier, you have to stay on the unit. Well bring food from the cafeteria up here for you. You'll be under observation for the next twenty four hours. How do you feel on your medicine?"
"Uh.." Lily tried to think up something to say but nothing came to mind. She just sat there. Any other time she'd be salty about not being able to leave the unit but right now all Lily wanted to do was sleep.
"Are you okay?" The new nurse asked as Lily laid back down and rolled over. "Mn." Lily made a noise to assure the nurse she'd heard her. "Well.." the nurse said, "I'm Angelina, by the way."
___Lily woke up around nine o'clock when every one was asleep and she was starving. Her empty stomach growled angrily, demanding food. Lily wandered out of her room to the front desk. "Is there food?" She asked, "I'm hungry."
The new nurse from early looked up from the computer. "Uh.." she began but nurse butch interrupted her, "Not right now. The food from the cafeteria was taken away." And went back to what she was doing in the closet. "How bout a snack? We have graham crackers?" The new nurse named Angelina offered. Lily nodded and mumbled a half assed thank you. Angelina was extra nice and gave her three packs with a box of orange juice. Lily decided nurse Angelina was cool. But she also wandered how long that would last.
