Authors Note: Hi! Thank you to the, like, 2 people who will actually read this- if that. This is a fan fiction about Lily and James Potter- yeah, I know I am like a decade late. This awesome story and the characters in it belongs to the J.K. Rowling, and the events are only my idea of what happened to make Lily and James and the rest of the crew end up how they did in the beginning of Harry Potter. To read more about Harry Potter, just look it up and make sure that you note that it is by J. K. Rowling. I think that is enough of a disclaimer, right? So ha, you can't call me out for copyright.

Lily Evans was just your average run of the mill 10 year old girl. Nothing extraordinary about her. Not unless you count her striking, bright green eyes, or intensely vibrant auburn hair, or her sharp as a tack mind. Oh, or the fact that she is a witch, and her best friend Severus Snape is a wizard. Nope, nothing at all.

She went to a normal school in Cokeworth, England, as did her sister Petunia, and she had many friends. None of them were as dear to her as Sev was, but she still got on fine with them and was never lonely. She never got below average in any of her classes and did not mind learning- in fact, she thrived on it! Sometimes, she was called a know-it-all when they thought she wasn't listenign, but she never let it deter her from her studies because she knew that they did not mean any harm.

Sev, on the other hand, was bright enough, although he did not enjoy school, or any other social gatherings for that matter. He did not let his facade of an expressionless, bored boy drop unless it was just him and Lily. With Lily, he was ecstatic and even smiled and laughed until his stomach hurt.

The two were total opposites. Lily was the glass is half full type of kid, whereas Sev was the kind of kid who saw the glass as something that could be broken and used as a weapon kind of kid (you really don't want to bother him when he is drinking water). Lily loves making new friends, whereas Sev really does not care about other people and only wants to spend time with Lily since she is magical like him. If Lily were to be considered the Sun, then Sev would be the moon.

"Hey Sev!", Lily announced after coming to the playground after school. It was abandoned, except for the poor, greasy-haired boy wearing hand-me-down clothes.

"Hi Lily," Sev said in response, excited to teach Lily more about the magic that runs through her very veins, the power she could possess if she only learned, except the only sign of all that emotion was a slight smile tugging at the right corner of his lips.

"So, what'll it be today?" Lily asked, her voice filled with excitement. As stated before, she loved to learn, and even learning something that she would not be able to fully explore in depth until she was 11.

"Why don't we learn about the houses at Hogwarts? When we get there, we will be sorted into the 4 houses immediately, so I think that it would be best that you understand them properly so that you don't go wishing to be placed in the wrong one."

"Alright. I know that there are Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin, but can you explain what each one represents?" Lily asked, curiosity filling her to the brim, ready to explode out of her in a wave of questions.

"Yes yes, of course," Sev said, amused to see Lily squirming, thanks to her eagerness. "Hufflepuff is for the kind hearted- it's where the unexceptional magical people go, who value teamwork and effort over power and cleverness. It's not a very great house to be in, so we probably won't end up there."

Well, Lily thought, being kind and working together does not seem bad. I don't know why Sev doesn't want to be in that house. I would be honored to get Hufflepuff, but I won't tell Sev that- he may get offended.

"Then, there's Ravenclaw. That is where the clever, ingenious witches and wizards go. You may end up there, but since you were raised as a muggle and do not know too much about the Wizarding world, I can't be sure. Anyway, many great and well-known witches and wizards have been placed in this house, so it would not be horrible if you ended up here, but we want to be together, and since I plan on ending up in the best house, we would be separate.

Hm, this sounds like a pretty good house, too. Little does Sev know that I have been studying some of these subjects without him. I guess he hasn't noticed his books slowly disappearing one at a time with all that goes on at his house. Ha. I wonder what the best house is, though?, thought Lily.

"Third, there is Gryffindor," Sev said in a bored tone. "It is nothing special, just where the strong, brave, dead-brained jocks go because there is no other quality to them- just raw power. It's not a good house for you to be in, so let's just skip ahead to Slytherin."

Well, Sev obviously didn't like Gryffindor. I guess I shouldn't want that house, but the way he put it made it sound so biased. I think I'm going to read up on it. Certainly it can't be all bad, can it? Bravery isn't a bad quality, and strength is not always muscle, it can be emotional strength, or the strength of love. Oh well, I'll find out later. I must steal- hehe, um, borrow, Hogwarts, A History, from him, Lily planned.

"Slytherin is the best," Sev was saying, with more enthusiasm than any of the other houses, "It is for the cunning, slick, and sly people. Slytherins have more ambition than any of the other houses, and they can slip out of any compromising situation. I just know that I am going to get this house, and I really hope that you do, too. You show more determination than anyone else I know, and you could be incredible."

Severus really wanted to be with Lily, and even though she was Muggle-born, he knew that with time, the other Slytherins would be able to understand why she belonged with them.

Slytherin does sound good, but I'm sure there is something wrong with it. Sev is definitely biased, but if he wants me to be there, then I guess it can't be that bad. Sev only wants to help me succeed in this new world, and if he thinks that Slytherin will give me my best chance, I believe him. Still, fact-checking can't hurt.

"Thanks Sev," Lily exclaimed. "I really hope we are together, but even if we aren't, do you promise we will always be friends?" This question had been in the back of Lily's head ever since she heard about the houses vaguely about a month ago. She had a best friend back in 1st grade, but when they were separated into different classes the following year, they grew apart and never spoke again.

"Always," Sev promised. Even if I am shunned for it by the rest of Slytherin as a muggle-born lover. Lily is my best friend, and she has always accepted me. Maybe, if she doesn't get Slytherin- no don't think that Severus. Stay positive.

Lily smiled, and they talked until sunset, just like everyday since they met.

Author's Note: Yo, I'm going to start saying A/N for Author's Note cause I don't want to write it all out each time. I hope you enjoyed this, and if you have any ideas, please leave a comment, and I will be sure to give you credit where it is due! The next chapter will skip ahead and take place in Lily's first year at the train ride- don't worry, the Marauder's and the rest of the gang is coming!
