I want you, I promise that I will make things better. I promise. Please, it's only you.

He caresses your cheek and looks into your eyes, pleading for you to believe him. You do, you so stupidly believe him with every fiber of your being that you are the only one he ever wants. You close your eyes and lean into his embrace, only to open your eyes again and he's vanished.

Your face is wet with tears from your dream. Your head is pounding from one too many drinks last night. You lay there and try to let your mind go blank to try and recover from your stupid decisions last night. It doesn't last long though. Ethan and what he said, all the possibilities that could have made him say that. Why would he say that? He hardly even knows you. Are you that transparent? You thought you were hiding your pain so well. Maybe you need to not talk to Ethan for a while. He probably wouldn't care anyway, nor would he notice. Right? He's a busy man with far too much going on to even worry about you.

You sit up and groan. It's been a while since you last had a hangover this bad. At least you didn't do anything crazy last night, from what you remember. Getting out of bed and walking over to the kitchen a movement on the couch catches your eye. Who could that be? Your eyes go wide at the short black tousled hair. You groan inwardly and try to tiptoe quietly to the fridge to grab water. The man stirs and opens his eyes and sees you.

"Goodmorning beautiful. Last night was fun but not as fun as I thought it could be."

"Oh, uh, hello. Good morning. I'm sorry, I have a ridiculous hangover and I don't remember what kind of fun we had."

His face shows embarrassment but tries to play it off with a cool smile, " just some drinks and kissing. nothing past that though obviously since I'm waking up out here, and you're coming from your room. I think we both had too much to drink."

Relief washes over you. Wow, Jenevieve. Making out with the hot lawyer from the elevator that just happened to be there last night. What great choices you're making. You groan and roll your eyes to yourself.

"I see, well I'm sorry about that. I'm not really looking for anything right now. Not even that kind of fun. Do you want some Advil and water though? Then could you maybe leave and not say this to anyone? Because this is horrifying on another level."

He shrugs his shoulders, " fine by me. I don't kiss and tell anyway. But I will accept the Advil and water and take them with me to go. My ride should be here any minute. Thanks for letting me crash."

He stands and gathers his belongings while you grab a bottle of water and hand him the Advil. You lock eyes and he smiles.

"You know, I may be a lawyer but I'm not a complete asshole like the rest of them. I can be a good guy once you get to know me. I'll see you around," and with that, he flashes you another smile and heads out the door closing the door behind him.

You stand there trying to collect your thoughts. A good guy, that's what they always say and they always end up not. You can't even remember his name.

You check your phone, just another phantom vibration. What nonsense, you think to yourself. Of course there would be nothing, your frustration got the better of you and you accused her of running from something, out of nowhere! But her eyes, there is a sense of sadness, one that you know all too well. One you know that cannot be pushed or prodded, you can only be patient. That raw heartbreaking sadness can only be healed with time and patience, maybe one day she'll open up. Why do you feel like this? You've only known her for a little over a month. The moment you saw her beautiful brown kind eyes open after sleeping on your shoulder for that hour on the plane ride, your annoyance faded away. You were caught off gaurd, your breath taken away when her lips curved up into a shy smile and sincere apology.

Knock knock

"Come in"

"I'm sorry Dr. Ramsey but we're in need of your assistance. We aren't getting any further with this case."

"Alright, bring in the team. We'll figure this out, Dr. Valentine."

She smiles at you, you've noticed that smile before and thought that maybe there could have been something there, but now that you've met Jenevieve it's different. She turns and walks out of your office. Yes, things are different now. But now, you've got to find a way to apologize for your behavior last night. You groan inwardly, lost with what to do.
