Kaito kept on calling.
His words became clearer.
Every sound became clearer.

He was calling my name.

I wanted to respond.
I wanted him to stop.
I couldn't.
I couldn't speak.

His voice became louder.

He kept on calling,

It was non-stop.

Was this my life now?
Watching the days go by, only being able to listen?
Not being able to do anything?

Listening to the beeping.
Listening to my name being called.
Listening to the noisy hallway.

I couldn't do anything.

It hurts.

The calling continued.
◇─◇──◇────◇──◇

He heard the door open.
Footsteps.
Loud.
Echoed.
Footsteps.

The boy was slightly panicked.
Someone came in.
They were getting closer,
But who?

The boy stared at Kaito.
He wasn't facing him anymore.
He had his back turned and wasn't paying attention to him now.
The one person he thought he could count on at the moment,
Turned his back on him.

Familiar.

That word echoed in the boy's head.
Everything else seemed to fade away.
But why?
Why was it so familiar?
What meaning did the word have to him?
He felt like he needed to know.

◇─◇──◇────◇──◇

The boy's gaze drifted back towards the ceiling.
It was like an endless void.
You wanted to see the end yet all you saw was black.

He wanted to focus on the void.
The seemingly endless ceiling.
It was blank.
He wanted to let his worries fly away.
He wanted to just stare.
Yet the word kept on returning.

It was endless.
Non-stop.

Familiar.

The word roared on his mind.
He couldn't focus.
He wanted to escape the screams in his head.
He had to figure out why.

Why was this word so important.
Why couldn't he just let it go?

He closed his eyes.

His mind screamed.

It's Familiar.
