Now here's some information about PIES.
Ha, I bet you were expecting random facts about pies. Too bad, this is information about the Polaris Institute of Engineering and Science. Sorry!
Your character has been chosen by their school (either a teacher or principal who sees their potential) to join the program. After being chosen, they get to say if they want to actually do it or not. In case you have a character that does not want to join, you can say that their parents forced them to.
The Polaris Institute of Engineering and Science was founded in 2020 by a Hong Konger scientist named Isabella Chen (陳麗玲) who discovered the truth about natural disasters and what actually caused them. When she reported her findings to her scientist partners, they thought she was crazy. She founded PIES to inform more people about her findings, but in fear of people trying to side with the monsters causing all these natural disasters, she hid the true purpose of the institute.
The conflict between these monsters and PIES has lasted for decades. As of now, it is the year 2050, 30 years after the institute's creation. The monsters have been getting stronger, and the institute needs help. The scientists there have created new technology to create weapons, and even alter a human's DNA sequence. All they need now is people to help them.
The main headquarters of PIES is located in Tsing Yi, an island in Hong Kong. It is the tallest building in the city, standing at 600m and easily dominating the International Commerce Centre. Hong Kong is said to be safe from all natural disasters besides typhoons, but the knowledge that the PIES headquarter is located where it is may endanger the city, as like I said, the monsters are growing stronger...
And there you have it! I'll add information if I want to add anymore, but for now it's fine.

Oh well, I bet this book will also turn out to be a giant meme, like my last applyfic. Good thing it won't bother me. I'm just sitting here, grinning like a maniac whenever I start to type PIES.

Okay fine have some facts about pies, courtesy of Google
- Pie pastry shells used to be so hard in the Roman times that they were used as bowls and thrown away later. What a waste of pie crusts >:(
- A guy named Oliver Cromwell banned pies in 1644.
- Rich people in the 16th century used to put live animals in pies, so they would jump/fly out of the pies when they were cut to surprise people
Edit: I decided to add a record of the ideal powers and special gadget/weapons other people have picked so they don't overlap. Please look at this list if you want to make sure the powers/special gadgets don't clash.

- Mental enhancement that allows the user to understand how a mechanical structure works just by looking at it
