Name of the book - Gone Girl
Authoress - Gillian FlynnNote- contains spoilers, I'm not recommending you to read this book but still...your call.
Last week I made an extremely stupid mistake, I bought 'Gone Girl', with a lot of expectations.
So basically this book was so highly praised not just by the people around me but by the people around the globe that I actually started keeping it on your wishlist.
Because how can so many people be wrong? Obviously, this book must be worth it.
I fell for this bullshit.
Once again people all around the world proved to be stupid, collectively. There were just so many people out there on the web, bloggers, reviewers, critics, all that kind of professionals (to whom I once considered being sensible) shouting on top of their voices, "Oh my god! It totally blew my mind!"
Like seriously? Does your mind get blown by this?So basically the story is about a couple around in their mid-thirties, Nick and Amy, on their fifth anniversary she disappears and the book starts.
Half of the book in divided into two parts, one where Nich is dealing with the present and at times recalling events from the past and the other is Amy's diary, which starts from the day they met and ends a few months back her disappearance. When you are reading this side of the book you develop a strong concern for Amy, with her being the only child of rich parents, with her trying to be equal with her almost extremely poor husband Nick, with he blaming her for problems which he faces which have nothing to with her, with her trying to be the best wife Nick deserves and finally with Nick cheating on her from the past year with his student.
I genuinely liked her if not loved and absolutely hated him. Then came the other half of the book telling that she is very much alive and indeed trying to frame him for her murder because he cheated on him.
And it looks like her plan was very much of a success but then came other plain parts in the books which were called major twists.
And blah and blah. The one reason why hated Nick, even though he was being framed for a crime which hadn't actually taken place was because he constantly blamed Amy for things which didn't really have anything to do with her.
As he cheated on her because he found his student resembling a 'sex doll', yea these were the actual words of him but he believed that he cheated on Amy because there wasn't spark in their relationship anymore or some that kinda shit and this continues throughout, he choosing to be with her for serving his selfish agendas.
So even though Amy was a psychopath and what she did to others was not right, I loved her for framing the murder.
Nick was a serious asshole and he totally deserved the stress she gave him.The reason why I didn't like the book was that it never met the height a thriller is supposed to.
The story was good, really good but it was plain there was no thrill in it, none.
I already knew what was going to happen next, I was never surprised the entire book and so I don't want to call it a good or a satisfactory read.So there was this really good offer on Amazon from where I got this book at ₹135, so it's not like I'll mourn my loss a lot but still, I would have got something better!
So honestly speaking I could have even liked the book if I'd not read with holding so many expectations already.
The voices of people saying that 'this is the best thriller ever' were extremely fresh in my mind so I felt that it's just not the one I thought it was.
But there's one thing that needs to be acknowledged, this kind of book needs a lot of efforts, it demands way more investment in it from the authoress than any other genre.
Therefore, writing such book, with complete zero mistakes and plagiarism is a great job in its own.So if you've not read any of this book's AMAZING reviews before reading the actual book there's a chance that you may like it.
Personally, I find the book incredibly overrated.
