THE SOUNDS OF PATTERING FEET and childish screams filled the playground. Little boys and girls flocked to the various swings, seesaws and balls that were kicked across the grass. Every now and then you'd see a quarrel between kids, only for spectating parents to come and moderate the situation. It was your typical hot Sunday morning in the hidden leaf village. It was the start of a long-deserved weekend. There was so much you could possibly do; sleep in, complete upcoming homework, or like (Y/N), you could visit the playground with your little sis.
You felt a small tug against your top "(Y/N)-nee, push me on the swings!" (S/N), your youngest sister and reason for even being here, pointed a stubby finger towards a vacant swing in the distance, a rare sight for the apparatuses popularity. I smiled and ruffled her smooth (H/C) hair "Alright, do you want it high or low?" She smiled brightly in response, displaying her missing milky teeth with a bubble of excitement "High high high!"
(S/N) giggled joyfully, her arms wailing in the air as she rushed towards the swing. I followed after, a little skip in my step to match her long strides. I always admired how full of energy six-year olds were; Their wide-eyed looks of curiosity for the world around them and urge for adventure. "Up, up!" (S/N) clawed at the rubber seat, unable to get on being so small. I met her side and lifted her onto the seat, placing her small hands onto the metal chains before warning "Hold on, okay? Don't let go" She nodded with a little "u-huh"
I planted a kiss on her cheek before beginning to push her. Little giggles and screams escaped her as she reached new heights, feeling like a bird souring in the sky. As a ninja myself, I was used to the feeling. But that was when I caught a familiar face in the distance. Short ashen hair and wide, tear-filled blue eyes...a small girl was wandering alone in the playground. Her pink frilly skirt was muddied and bruised, her yellow hoodies sleeve was stained with fresh tears.
The young girl was none other than Himawari, Borutos (her classmate) sister. "(S/N), wait here for a moment" I stopped pushing (S/N) on the swing and jogged towards Himawari, catching her attention in the process. "Hey, are you okay?" Himawaris glossy blue eyes met mine, looking up at me with pure innocence before croaking out "I-I lost my big bro..." Boruto? 'Tch, of course that clutz would mess up...' I knelt down to her level and placed a comforting hand on her shoulder
"You're Borutos little sister right? My name is (Y/N), I'm a classmate of his" Himawari wiped her tears away with the sleeve of her hoodie at the mention of Boruto, smiling a weak smile "Y-you know b-big bro?" I nodded my head and gestured for (S/N), who was still sitting on the swing, watching from afar, to come closer. She happily obliged and ran over to me with a worried expression "Is she okay nee-san?"
"She will be" I turned towards Himawari once again and began introducing the two. In order to help the girl out, it's best to make her feel safe first "this is (S/N), (S/N) this is Himawari" (S/N) waved at the girl innocently and she returned it back.
I got to my feet and scanned the surroundings. My eyes wandered across every apparatus and bench, but there was no sight of the blonde idiot, so I sighed and took the little girls hand. "Do you know your way back home from here? I can take you there" The best I could think of doing was either walking her home or to the Hokages office, her being the daughter of the seventh after all. But that was when she nodded her head "u-huh... a little bit"
I smiled and brushed a messy strand of black hair behind her ear "Alright, tell me where to go and you'll be home in no time" I was hoping that when making it back to her house, we'd run into Boruto. I could imagine him having a panic attack at the realisation that his precious little sister was gone. I smiled to myself, enjoying the image of the boy panicking. It was not like I disliked him or anything, his clumsiness was rather cute.
As we made it to the exit of the park, (S/N) started skipping alongside Himawari, talking about her favourite games and what she liked to do, typical kid stuff. I appreciated it due to it calming Himawari down, and before we knew it, I finally spotted him in the distance. Face pale with grief, and hands shaking, the one and only Boruto was jumping from roof to roof. Every now and then he'd cup his hands and yell 'Himawari!!' At the top of his lungs, leading for me to let go of the little girls hands and yell back "SHES HERE!!"
Borutos head snapped towards my direction, his ocean blue eyes glistening with hope. That was when he stopped us too and suddenly bursted with happiness. "Himawari!" Boruto jumped from the roof and landed with ease, not before jogging up to us and engulfing his little sister into a massive, loving hug "Big bro!" Himawari gladly accepted his hug, burying her face into his black tracksuit. He must've smelt like thunderburgers as she squealed "I missed you big bro! Where were you?"
Boruto finally realised that I was also there, still holding hands with my little sis with a smug grin in the distance. He really did have a soft side. Boruto quickly turned serious, trying to hide his embarrassment "I'm sorry for not paying attention to you, I got side tracked and before I knew it, you were gone!" Himawari fumbled with the edge of her pink skirt "I'm sorry too..."
With the two reunited and safe, I sighed with relief "Well, I'm glad everything's okay. You're lucky I found her before some creep did, Boruto" I shot the blonde a sharp look, making sure he knew he messed up. He scratched the back of his head nervously in response. "...Yeah, sorry about that" A second went by and suddenly I was met with a warm smile, the type of smile that could brighten anyone's day "Thanks for looking after her, (Y/N). I owe ya one"
My face unexpectedly turned a slight shade of pink, unsuspecting of his charm. "Don't worry about it...as an older sibling myself I understand what it's like" We both shared an understanding smile before Himawari tugged at the hem of Borutos top "Big bro, can (Y/N) join us for dinner? We barely have any guests!" Suddenly Boruto had fallen for the same feverish blush. He glanced at me then back at her "Uhm, I'm not sure if (Y/N)s free..."
That was when (S/N) spoke up, an excited grin curling up her lips "We're free! I wanna play with Himawari!" Himawari cheered in response "Yaaay! C'mon, let's go!" The two little girls linked arms and began running off towards the nearby houses. At that moment, I knew a lasting friendship was formed between the two, leaving just me and Boruto alone.
I sighed "They're going to get lost again if we don't catch up" Boruto agreed, shoving his hands inside his hoodies pocket "Yup, and I'm gonna get an earful from my mum" He turned to face me, the sun highlighting his bold features. A cheeky grin curled up his lips "Race ya to my place"
And just like that, we were off.
