Drowning

She was drowning, the skies looked like the shifting water. The sharks in the water left when they couldn't find her.

She was alone.

Not even the moon gave company. It was big and intimidating.

The crashing of the waves, the crunch between water and rocks, the screams of sailors:

Everything was too much at that moment.

She felt her lungs burn, her eyes got stung with the salty water, her will to stay awake getting weaker- everything was set to her demise.

She looked up at the water grave for a moment, life gracing her with the chance to breathe one last time before she was picked up by a strong hand. Her eyes got watery knowing she won't have to die alone at the moment. The sky lit up light blue, engulfed in flames.

With a small smile- she
Embraced death as it was.

Wet.

Wet and soft?

"Come on, babe, wake up-yoi."

A deep inhale and a yawn, she opened her eyes.

She wasn't in drowning.

She was in bed. Covered in cozy blankets and cuddled up to her favorite human. The rocking of the boat and the moaning of the wood made her  aware that they  were still traveling.

"Why?"

"You were crying in your sleep. You had another nightmare?" Marco whispered. He knew she almost died. She  was lucky enough that Thatch pulled her out and Marco guided them to her.

"Oh...I'm sorry." She mumbled.

"Don't be. You're safe with me-yoi."

It was a few years ago when her own squadron left you for dead. The Marines quickly replaced her and sent an apology letter to her parents.

But that was it.

No one looked for her body.

No one mourned her.

She just faded away. But that was good. She didn't need to live in their memory.

"Thank you. Let's go back to sleep?"

She asked the blonde, making him smile and kiss her lips softly in confirmation as he laid both of them back down and sighed in relief, he stroke her hair and cuddled her close. Afraid that she might slip away.

The nightmare was still vivid, but he always pulled her  out of it.
