I wore my knee-high, lace-up boots, and cast a spell that made my dark hair wavy. I wore a matted lipstick that would take forever to get off when we got back. Wen wore a red dress and high-top, shiny black shoes. I gave Wen a pebble and stood up on the desk chair to open up the one window that was just above ground level, everything else was below grounds. I jumped and pulled myself through then turned and held out a hand for Wen. She grabbed it and pulled herself through.
A small light appeared in the pebble that moved towards the direction we needed to walk. Wen huddled next to me. Soon enough we saw the golden light of a large bonfire. I heard music, BTS I think, and people talking, singing, laughing, and crying. The scene was bursting with life. People turned to gold in the firelight. There was dancing and people huddled together in groups. A boy was talking to a girl but seemed to be checking peoples' stones at the same time.
We showed him our stones and he nodded for us to go through. Wen came over and shook my arm. She smiled brightly at the scene around us. She seemed to be feeding off the energy of the people around us.
"I want to dance!" She screamed. I laughed at her.
"You say you wanna dance?" A man asked and approached us. "I'm a friend of Taehyung's. Jin. I'd like to dance with you, if that's alright. I mean look at this worldwide handsome face. What's not to love?"
"Enough said. I'm with you." She grabbed his arm and turned back to me. "I'll catch up with you later."
"Alright." I nodded and moved back away from the crowd. There were strange colored drinks everywhere, but I knew better than to take one. Just the opportunity for hexes to be floating around. I leaned against a tree and let the fire dance in my eyes. Even though the fire was producing heat, I still found myself chilly. I should have worn long sleeves.
I was so wrapped up in my own mind, I didn't notice as Taehyung approached me. He came and put both his hands behind my head on the tree behind me, trapping me between his arms. I looked up into his intense eyes. For a moment neither of us said anything. We just held that intense eye contact. It drove me mad how strong of a reaction he got from me.
I couldn't seem to stay away from him. I was drawn to him. I couldn't leave him alone if I tried. He was just so... I don't even know if there are words for what I was feeling. It was... pain. I was in a desperate pain when I was with him. Like I was desperately missing him. When I was away from him, it felt like I was constantly forgetting something important. Like part of me was missing.
Don't call me crazy. I know how it sounds. I know it doesn't make sense. We didn't know each other that well. We'd just met only yesterday. And yet there was something between us. Some strange magnetic force that couldn't be denied.
"I'm glad you made it." Taehyung finally said. His breath tickled my cold nose.
"I'm sure you are." I forced myself to smile. He grinned at that. "So, what does one do at this sort of event?"
"I find it hard to believe you've never been to a party." He laughed and kept one arm on the tree but lowered the other.
"I've been to parties. Witch parties too. I've never been to a Gravescroft party. Anything I should know?" I tilted my head and his eyes followed the movement.
"Don't drink anything." I laughed at that advice.
"Well, duh." I shook my head. "That's true for almost any party. The humans slip things in their drinks too. Just as dangerous."
"I see," he smirked, "Then the second thing you need to know, is that we have a little initiation ceremony for freshies."
"And what would that be?" I asked.
