When i opened the door to walk in a bell above me chimed indicating my entrance. It was a cozy dinner. There were booths and tables, the floor had a white marble tile and a fire place at the end of the dinner which had two single seats by it.
"oh its you again." i heard a voice say from behind the large counter which also had seats. i gave her a half smile in response and walked over to the counter.
"any luck with your boat?" she asked as she propped her elbows onto the counter to place her chin on her palms.
"uh.. no." i stated simply, my cheeks going red. "anything i can help you with?" she asked sweetly, giving me a small smile. why was she being so nice to a complete stranger?
"oh uhm, do you have a phone i could borrow?" i asked scratching the back of my head, nervously.
she raised an eyebrow and gave me an amused look, "you don't own a cellphone?" she asked as she began to look through her apron pockets.
"oh i do but its dead and my only charger isn't working." i stated, giving her a slight chuckle.
She handed me the phone, then looked at me, "would you like some coffee?" she asked
"sure, thanks." i mumbled quickly. She gave me a warm smile and pointed towards the fireplace, "you can take a seat over there if you'd like, i'm just gonna close up real quick."
i took a seat on the couch and dialed a boat service. As i was put on hold she returned with a cup of coffee and a muffin. i furrowed my eyebrow in confusion and looked up at her, "i just thought you were maybe hungry." she said in a sweet whisper, biting down on her lower lip. "i hope its okay."
i cleared my throat and gave her a small smile, "of course, thank you."
After a thirty minute wait, a man finally answered the phone only to tell me he couldn't do anything for me.
i hung up and let out a frustrated sigh, looks like i'll have to get myself out of here.
After hanging up she walked over and picked up my now empty cup and plate. I walked over to the larger counter once again and once she came back from the kitchen i reached over and gave her her phone. "thank you." i said as i grabbed my wallet from my jacket pocket and pulled it out. Just as i was about to pull out cash she spoke up, "its on the house." she stated making me look up at her.
"oh no i couldn't." i said still attempting to pull my money out.
she reached over and placed her hand over mine, making me freeze in place. i didn't realize just how long it had been that even the smallest form of being touched affected me.
"really, after the evening you've had out there, a cup of coffee was the least i could do." she stated.
why was this girl being so nice to me?
i cleared my throat, "well uh, thanks again." i stated awkwardly as i pulled my hand away and rubbed the back of my head.
"any luck getting ahold of someone to help?" She asked plopping her head down on her hand that she had placed on the counter.
"no" i said honestly, "emergency services said they couldn't help me so looks like i'll have to do it on my own."
"well keep being as stubborn as you were for those twenty minutes and i'm sure you'll get it out in no time." she said, giggling.
i mentally face palmed and my cheeks began to grow hot and red. she saw that? why is it making me so nervous?
"i should get going now" i said as i adjusted my jacket nervously, "thanks for the coffee and letting me borrow your phone-" i paused taking a quick look down at her name tag, which read: 'jennie'. "-Jennie." i finished as i opened the door, "maybe i'll see you around." she said giving me a smile.
"maybe." i stated as i walked out the door.
As i stepped outside of the dinner i was greeted with a fresh breeze and a mist of water. it was still drizzling and it was now windy. i zipped up my jacket and shoved my hands into my pockets as i made my way back to my boat. when i reached the boat i climbed my way on and went inside. i grabbed a bottle of gin, a glass and my typewriter.
i slid into the booth and poured myself a glass as i starred at my typewriter and wondered. i wonder if jisoo got my first letter. is she mad at me? relieved? i hope she's doing okay.
i heard a faint, "hey" outside which interrupted me from my thoughts. i didn't think much of it till i heard a louder and closer, "hey!" from outside the boat. Confused i stepped out onto the deck and looked over the railing. it was her, Jennie. She was no longer in a apron but now was wearing a trench coat.
"Jennie?" i questioned confused. "i realized i didn't get your name." she said wrapping her arms around herself as a cold rush of wind hit her.
"sam, my name is sam." i said smiling at the fact that she came out in the cold and rain just for my name. it felt so foreign. smiling at someone again. immediately feeling guilty, i bit my bottom lip and stopped smiling. Jennie on the other hand didn't, she kept her gummy smile as she said, "well sam, i brought you something." she said before she dug through her pockets and pulled out a white cord. from where i was standing i couldn't make out what it was. "string?" i questioned as i squinted my eyes, leaning forward. "no." she stated giggling. "a charger."
why is she being so kind? she doesn't even know me.
i walked over to the ladder and climbed down. As i did she walked up to me and held her hand out, "for you." she said sweetly, handing me the charger.
i smiled again, this time i didn't bother to stop myself. "why are you being so nice to me?" i asked still looking down at the charger in my hand.
"some people need it more than others." she stated simply. i looked up at her, and she had small smile on her lips and a slight blush on her cheeks and nose from the cold breeze. but before i could question what she meant by that she let out a short breath and said, "i'm sorry if i interrupted you, i just thought you'd might like to have a charger that works." she paused before giving me a toothy smile, "i hope you have a good night, sam."
with a smile still on my face as she walked away i replied, "Goodnight Jennie."
i climbed back onto the deck and went back inside. i poured myself another glass as i walked over to my bed and replaced my old charger with the one Jennie just gave me. i plugged in my phone and it started to charge it. i walked back over to the booth and slid in. i chugged my glass before filling it up again. i took a deep breath then started to type.

"Dear Jisoo,

It seems that i've made it to my next destination already. i bought a boat and taught myself to sail. it's been quite the experience. i parked in a rather shallow area and now i'm stuck here for a while. Maybe it'll do me good. it's peaceful here. the pain and sadness is still consuming me but i'm going to try. i hope you're doing okay jisoo, i miss you. i hope you're not too angry at me.

Love Always, Sam."

i folded up the paper before putting it into an envelope and placing a stamp. i looked at my watch and it read: 9:40pm. i should get some sleep, or at-least try to. i slid out of the booth and took off my boots. i got dressed into some pajamas and i walked back to the table of the booth. i looked at the gin and the glass for a moment before letting out a breath. fuck it. i thought as i grabbed the bottle, pressing my lips against it and lifting it. i chugged down the bottle before placing a now empty bottle down on the table. i walked over to my bathroom and washed up before walking back to bed, letting myself fall onto the mattress.
