Vera's POV

Darkness. All I saw was darkness. My head was pounding and my arms and legs were numb as if they haven't moved in centuries. I look around, trying to make out anything I could in the pitch black. I tried to sit up but hit my head on a wall. I placed my hands against the wall, and I soon realized I was trapped in a small casket-like thing.

'Was I buried alive?' I thought to myself. I slowly lifted my hand to see if there was any way out.

"Don't panic," I chanted to myself, attempting to calm down my rapid heartbeat. "Don't panic."

I searched the small space I was trapped in, taking in the details of the thing I was stuck in. It was big enough for me to slightly move my body, but it was too small for me to sit up in. I felt a glassy window-like box on the top of the casket, the rest of it felt like cold metal. I couldn't see anything out of the glass. After a few minutes of looking around and trying to open the casket, I finally found something. A sort of metal stick pointing out of the side that I didn't feel nor see before.
" Is that a lever?" I whispered to myself in relief, hoping that it might be a way out of here. It was hard to move as if it had been stuck in the same spot for years. A terrible scraping sound rang through my head as I pushed the lever. After a few hard minutes of pushing it upwards, I managed to push it up. Then, the casket thing I was trapped in slightly opened a few inches, enough for a warm light to start flooding in. I tried to kick the lid open with my legs, but it didn't budge.

"Hello!? I yelled out through the crack. "Can anyone hear me!?"

As I struggled to ease the lid open, a figure stood in the crack, peering in at me.

"Hey, are you OK?" Asked the mysterious figure. His voice was a males, one of those voices you feel like you could trust. I instantly felt a wave of relief wash over me as I realized that there was someone who could help me.

"I will be once I get out of this damn thing," I replied to the stranger, still attempting to break free from this imprisonment I have been calling a casket.

"Hold on, I'll get you out of there!" The man said. He quickly rushed off somewhere, but his footsteps were still in earshot. A few seconds later, he came running back with something in his hand.
"You might wanna move to the side!" He yelled to me. I quickly scooted my body over to the opposite side of the open crack. He stuck a stick looking object in it and started trying to pry open the thing I was trapped in. After struggling for a bit, the boy finally was able to move the lid upwards a bit. My legs were given a bit of freedom to move around, so I instinctively started kicking at the lid. It finally swung open, and the stranger held out a hand for me to grab. I grabbed onto it and he quickly and effortlessly pulled me out. When I stood on solid ground, my legs gave out on me and I started falling over. Then, a pair of arms grabbed me.

"You okay?" The guy asked. I finally was able to get a look at his face. He was a dark-skinned boy with short black hair to match his dark eyes. It reminded me of chocolate. Sweat was running down his face.

"Yeah, thanks for catching me," I gingerly replied to him, half-embarrassed that I couldn't even stand on my own.

"No problem," he replied. He helped me steady myself on my feet, and after getting used to the feeling, I was able to stand on my own. We looked around and saw that we were in a large room with a single light in the middle. The casket thing I was trapped in looked like something from a movie. A metallic pod with black glass on the top. That must have been the glass I was feeling. An uneasy feeling settled in my stomach as I looked at all of the pods. There were at least over twenty. I saw a number stamped onto my pod. The number 8 was on it in white.

"So-" As soon as I was about to ask the boy what his name was, I heard a click. We both looked to the side to see the pod-like capsule next to mine start to open.
