As the pod opened slightly, you could hear the frustrated and desperate grunts of a woman.
After the woman struggled a bit more, the mystery boy and I exchanged looks. We both nodded in agreement and started walking over to the slightly open pod cautiously.
"Hey!" The boy shouted at her, "do you... need any help?"
The woman stopped struggling for a moment, and I swear I could see a strand of black hair falling from the open crack of the pod.
"I can do it myself! Get lost!" She shouts back at us. The boy and I exchange another glance, both wondering if we should really help this woman out. I nod, and I walk over to her pod.
"Come on, just let us help you out. We won't hurt you. We're as confused as you are," I say to her in an attempt to calm her down. For a moment, I think she's going to ignore me, but then she groans.
"Ugh, fine. But if you try anything, and I mean anything at all, I'll break your damn skull."The boy walks over to my side and sticks his fingers in between the crack in the pod. He tries to lift up the lid, letting out a large grunt. After an unsuccessful attempt, he stops.
"C'mon hurry up!" The woman shouts at us. "It's hot as hell in here!"
The woman starts kicking the lid from the inside as the boy tries to rip the lid open forcefully again. I decide to look around and study my surroundings. There's more than 20 different pods around the room, most of them already opened, but some are still waiting to be opened. In a few minutes, the combined strength of the boy and the woman manage to get the lid open. The woman sits up, and the first thing I see is her long raven-black hair. From the look of her, she looks like she's from Asian decent. She shields her dark colored eyes from the bright light shining down at her as she hops out of the pod. She almost falls over, but supports her body on the pod. Then, she looks directly at the boy.
"If you had anything to do with this, I will rip your limbs off and shove it down your damn throat, got it?"
"We don't. I just woke up a few minutes ago over there," I say, pointing my finger to my still-opened pod."Well, what about him?" The woman asks, gesturing to the boy standing beside me.
"I was one of the first ones out," he says confidently, staring directly into the woman's dark eyes. "My name is Damien, and that's all I can remember about myself."
As I start to think, I realize I don't know much about myself either, except for the one single thing."Vera, I think my name is Vera," I say in a soft tone, still shaken that I don't know anything else about myself.
"The name's Estella. That's all I remember," the Asian woman, Estella, tells us.
After a few minutes of complete silence and skeptical looks from Estella, we hear a loud scream echo throughout the large room we're in. It sounded a bit muffled, so I assume it came from a different room."What the hell was that?!" Estella says, standing up in a cautious position. She stares at the other side of the room, then starts running towards where the scream came from.
"What are you doing?" I ask, running in front of her and grabbing her by the shoulders, making her stop in her tracks.
"Don't walk towards it! We don't know what could be there. We just woke up from some... thing! We only know one thing about ourselves, and now you wanna walk towards a scream of terror? Are you stupid?""Number one, get your hands off of me," she growls at me, glaring daggers into me. "And number two, I am not gonna just sit back and let whatever is going on in that room happen to me, so yes, I am going to go and check the place out."
She walks past me, hitting my shoulder as she passes. Damien puts a hand on my shoulder.
"Its alright to be scared, just let her go, she'll be alright," he says with a comforting smile, reassuring me. "I believe it came from the cafeteria, probably from one of the other people here. They also woke up, we're going to have a meeting when everyone else wakes up.""When are these ones gonna open?" I ask confused, looking around at the still-shut pods.
"They were supposed to open up a while ago," he says, a concerned look replacing his smile. I look back at the still-shut pods. There are two, both placed next to each other. Damian and I both started walking over to them, and as we reached the enclosed cases, Damien outstretched his hand to touch it. Inches away from touching the case, a loud siren started piercing through the room, making Damien and I quickly put our hands over our ears.
"What's happening?!" I attempt to scream at Damian over the terrible noise. He tries to scream something back, but I can't hear what he said. After what seemed like forever, the sound stopped, but I could still hear a slight ringing play throughout my head.
What just happened?" I ask myself, sitting down on the floor. As soon as I do, the two pods both start raising up. I see them both start to open up. I stand back up, Damien and I sharing a concerned look.
