"She's coming!" A voice at the back says.
The sound of those popular stilleto heels haults the indistinct chatter in the classroom. Everyone scurries to their seats, careful not to make noise.
A stench of old paper is followed by a woman dressed in black skirt and white shirt tucked underneath a pink sweater. Her hair is packed in a tight bun, greased almost permanently in its place.
Her green eyes, hollow from hours of night reading are hidden behind bifocal lens. The creases on her skin tell she's in her mid sixties.
"Morning everyone" she mouths in a falt toneless voice.
"Morning Mrs simmons"
She walks over to her desk, grabs the teacher's diary and starts to read.
*pop*
"What was that?" She quickly turns to the class, annoyance giving her eyes a new shade.
*silence*
She scans the classroom, her eyes hovering from one face to the other.
"Bryan! Are you chewing gum in my class?"
He makes another sound while placing his feet on his desk. He's in denim trousers and a blue long sleeve top, his blonde hair is tousled but seems to get the attention of the female gender.
"Yes, is that a problem?"
"Excuse me young man! You do know that it isn't allowed in my class"
"Too bad, I'm kinda enjoying this piece" he replies, ignoring her deadly stare.
Several eyes widen at his response followed by 'oohs' and whispers. Most are eager for her response while others are scared of the outcome.
"Mr Andrews, spit that out now, unless you'd like to spend the entire day cleaning the staff bathroom"
He sits up reluctantly and throws the piece of gum like a basketball shot into the bin three feet away. He makes the shot making the girls around swoon.
"And Mr Andrews, I recommend you channel all that 'bad boy energy' into reading your books to improve your 45% average" she says with a sly grin.
Chuckles and whispers fill the air as Bryan struggles to hide the embarrassment on his face.
She picks up the register, flips it open and begins calling names
Paula Brooks! "right here ma'am"
Justin Windy! " present".
Marie Clinton! "always here...unfortunately" she says as she rolls her eyes and picks on her fingernails.
Giggles and whispers fill the classroom.
"Young lady, you should be grateful you get to attend a prestigious school such as this one". Professor Simmons says as she approaches Marie.
