That night, as I sat in my room and waited, I thought of the previous night. I had spent time with my mom, met some undead, and I even made an acquaintanceship with a pretty cute boy. Too bad he was dead.

About an hour after the siren went off, I heard a tap on my window and quickly shut my bedroom door. For a moment, I just stood by my door and thought it over. I had no idea who was at my window. But after a couple more moments, I decided to take my chances.

"Who is it?" I quietly asked, pulling a beanbag chair over to my window and sitting down.

"It's Eleazar," I heard him say.

"And me too," I heard someone else argue.

"Victor followed me," Eleazar sighed. I could just picture him rolling his eyes. "I hope that's okay."

"Yea, that's fine," I told him. A feeling of loneliness surged through me. It was almost as if I felt left out because I was on the other side of the wall. I pressed my hand against the wall under my window, a secret gesture they never had to know about. It helped me not feel so alone. "How are you boys tonight?"

"Well El here was pretty anxious until we got here," Victor informed me.

I felt myself blush as I heard Eleazar snap at him with a quick, "Shut up, Victor!"

I giggled. "Well I found out that I apparently died last night, but I guess I never got the memo." I shrugged even though I knew they couldn't see it. "What do you guys do during the day?"

"Well I can only speak for myself, but I slept," Victor said. "El was probably pacing all day." He let out a howling laugh before I heard a slapping sound. "Dude..."

"Be nice, El," I laughed.

"Shouldn't you be telling Vic that?" Eleazar asked.

Suddenly my doorknob began to turn. "Hold on a sec," I quickly whispered to the guys outside my window, standing up.

The door opened and Marc walked in. "Did you hear that, Marlene?" he asked, huge grin plastered to his face.

"Hear what?" I asked him, ignoring the sound of Victor and Eleazar grumbling at each other outside my window.

"It seriously sounded like an undead laughing!" Marc started laughing. "It was crazy!" I thought to when Victor had laughed moments before. "Gosh, it was the most awesome thing ever! But yea, it was a little scary too."

"Sounds like it would be," I commented as Eleazar and Victor grew a little louder.

"Do you hear those undead outside?" Marc asked. "It's almost as if they're right outside your window." He gestured to the metal plating over my window. "Sounds like the plating gives some good acoustics. You totally have the creepy room." He grinned at me and patted my shoulder. "Well Dad's asleep. He has to leave for work tomorrow the moment the barricades are down. Apparently it's a busy day tomorrow. I just came in to say goodnight, too." He began to walk out. "Night, Mar."

"Goodnight, Marc," I replied before shutting my door after him. Once it was closed, I quickly went back to my beanbag chair. "So what did I miss?" I asked the guys on my roof.

"Who was that?" Victor curiously asked.

"It was just my brother," I told them. "By the way, Victor, he heard you laughing earlier."

"He did?" he excitedly asked. "Awesome!"

"Not awesome," Eleazar argued. "You know how Linda feels about that!"

"Who's Linda?" I asked.

"She's our leader of sorts," Eleazar explained. "And we're not supposed to be this close to the living. We can be outside of your house, but not exactly this close. Luckily, we don't have many snitches among us."
